Over-Under Myringoplasty
نویسنده
چکیده
The over-under myringoplasty is a technique which combines the advantages of both the over and underlay variants and at the same time avoids their complications. By placing the graft deep to the drum remnants, complications of the overlay myringoplasty such as blunting, lateralization and pearl formation are avoided and by passing superficial to the handle of the malleus the main disadvantage of the underlay namely atelectasis is minimized. The present study evaluates this technique and at the same time compares it with the underlay counter part. Fifty two patients undergoing the over-under procedure and 20 the underlay variant showed a high take rate but the former behaved better regarding fewer incidences of atelectasis (4.9 to 20%) and superior postoperative hearing improvement as evidenced by the reduction in the air bone gap by 9.7 and 4.9 dB respectively.

OBJECTIVE When performing transcanal myringoplasty under a microscope, the total circumference of the perforation can be difficult to confirm in patients where the external ear canal is narrow and/or protruded. In such patients, a retroauricular incision approach is usually used. However, we have developed a transcanal endoscopic myringoplasty procedure, and the microscopic and endoscopic views...
متن کامل[Myringoplasty in children: a comparison with an adult population].
The indications for myringoplasty in children has always been a controversial subject since many authors feel the high frequency of the phlogistic auricular processes in children constitute an unfavorable prognostic factor to success of the procedure. The authors present the results obtained in 23 patients under 17 years of age who had undergone myringoplasty for simple perforation of the tympa...
متن کاملComparison of Grafting Success Rate and Hearing Outcomes between Primary and Revision Tympanoplasties
Introduction: There are a few studies that compare the outcomes between primary and revision tympanoplasties. The purpose of the present study was to compare the results of type I tympanoplasty (i.e., synonymous to myringoplasty) and revision myringoplasty based on the closure of tympanic membrane perforation and hearing improvement. Materials and Methods: Thisprospective single-blind study was...

Introduction Myringoplasty is a commonly performed otologic surgery. Objectives The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of prognostic factors like - size, site of perforation, status of operating ear, approach, status of contralateral ear, experience of surgeon, primary or revision myringoplasty, and smoking in graft uptake, as well as to evaluate the hearing results after myrin...
