Stability Analysis of Transport Protocol XCP for High-speed Networks

چکیده
For solving problems of TCP in a long-fat network, a transport-layer protocol called XCP (eXplicit Control Protocol) has been proposed. XCP aims at realizing efficient congestion control by sending explicit feedback information from a router to source hosts. In the literature, there have been several simulation experiments for evaluating performance of XCP. However, stability of XCP in a general network has not been analyzed. In this paper, we therefore analyze stability of XCP in a network with multiple XCP flows with different propagation delays. Through several numerical examples, we show the following things. (1) When propagation delays of XCP flows are different, XCP operates more stably rather than when propagation delays of all XCP flows are identical. (2) When variation of propagation delays of XCP flows is large, XCP operates unstably. (3) Stability of XCP is not affected by the bandwidth of XCP router’s output link.

Improving Robustness of XCP (eXplicit Control Protocol) for Dynamic Traffic
In this paper, we reveal inherent robustness issues of XCP (eXplicit Control Protocol), and propose extensions to XCP for increasing its robustness. XCP has been proposed as an efficient transport-layer protocol for wide-area and high-speed network. XCP is a transport-layer protocol that performs congestion control based on explicit feedback from routers. In the literature, many performance stu...
متن کاملXCP-i : eXplicit Control Protocol for heterogeneous inter-networking of high-speed networks
XCP is a transport protocol that uses the assistance of specialized routers to very accurately determine the available bandwidth along the path from the source to the destination. In this way, XCP efficiently controls the sender’s congestion window size thus avoiding the traditional slow-start and congestion avoidance phase. However, XCP requires the collaboration of all the routers on the data...
متن کاملImproving XCP to Achieve Max-Min Fair Bandwidth Allocation
TCP is shown to be inefficient and instable in high speed and long latency networks. The eXplicit Control Protocol (XCP) is a new and promising protocol that outperforms TCP in terms of efficiency, stability, queue size, and convergence speed. However, Low et al. recently discovered a weakness of XCP. In a multi-bottleneck environment, XCP may achieve as low as 80% utilization at a bottleneck l...
متن کاملStability Analysis of XCP (eXplicit Control Protocol) with Heterogeneous Flows
In this paper, we analyze the stability of XCP (eXplicit Control Protocol) in a network with heterogeneous XCP flows (i.e., XCP flows with different propagation delays). Specifically, we model a network with heterogeneous XCP flows using fluid-flow approximation. We then derive the conditions that XCP control parameters should satisfy for stable XCP operation. Furthermore, through several numer...
