Patients with Dysfunction of the Sinus Node*

چکیده
Automaticity (postpacing impulse recovery time) of the sinus node or subsidiary pacemakers (or both) was determined by intracardiac recordings and atrial overdrive pacing in three patients with disease of the sinus node. Their electrocardiographic manifestations included sinus bradycardia, sinoatrial block, sinus arrest, afrioventricular junctional rhythm, and atrioventricular dissociation. One patient, who initially had syncope, demonstrated prolonged time for recovery of the sinus node (maximum corrected value, 3,485 msec) and impaired afrioventricular junctional automaticity (maximum corrected junctional recovery time, 1,460 msec). Of the remaining two patients without syncopal attacks, one had an adequate low atrial or junctional escape mechanism following cessation

Intra-Operative Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Node Biopsy in Laryngeal Carcinoma: Preliminary Results
Introduction: Sentinel node mapping has been used for laryngeal carcinoma in several studies, with excellent results thus far.In the current study, we report our preliminary results on sentinel node mapping in laryngeal carcinoma using intra-operative peri-tumoral injection of a radiotracer. Materials and Methods: Patients with biopsy-proven squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx were included...
متن کاملElectrophysiologic effects of lidocaine on sinus node and atrium in patients with and without sinoatrial dysfunction.
Electrophysiological studies were conducted in 13 patients with normal sinus node function and 14 with sinus node dysfunction before and after intravenous lidocaine. Mean +/- SEM sinus cycle length significantly shortened from 810 +/- 34.3 to 774 +/- 34.3 msec in patients with normal sinus node (P less than 0.001) and from 1061 +/- 67.6 to 1016 +/- 64.5 msec in patients with sinus node dysfunct...
متن کاملThe measurement of sinus node refractoriness in man.
We recently described a method for measuring sinus node refractoriness in the rabbit heart. Atrial premature beats either may result in reset return responses or may become interpolated because of encroachment on sinus node refractoriness. In previous studies with rabbits we defined the effective refractory period of the sinus node (SNERP) as the longest premature interval that is interpolated....
متن کاملFamilial sinoatrial node dysfunction. Increased vagal tone a possible aetiology.
Clinical and electrophysiological studies of a 13-year-old boy with sinus bradycardia revealed sinus node dysfunction. Long-term follow-up data of members of his family indicated familial sinus node dysfucntion. Increased vagal tone was present in all patients. It is suggested that excessive vagal discharge for a pronlonged time may be the basic mechanism of sinus node dysfunction in these pati...
متن کاملStudies on the Mechanism of Sinus Node Dysfunction in the Sick Sinus Syndrome JAY
The intrinsic heart rate (IHR) was determined in 17 patients with symptomatic sinus bradycardia by administering atropine 0.04 mg/kg and propranolol 0.2 mg/kg, i.v. In this way, sick sinus (SSS) patients with intrinsic sinus node (SN) dysfunction could be distinguished from those patients with disturbed autonomic regulation of SN function. Sick sinus syndrome patients with normal corrected sinu...
متن کاملPreoperative secundum atrial septal defect with coexisting sinus node and atrioventricular node dysfunction.
Sinus node dysfunction in patients after repair of the secundum atrial septal defect has been ascribed to surgical damage. We studied 15 consecutive patients with secundum atrial septal defect before operative intervention. Noninvasive testing included 34-hour electrocardiographic monitoring and a standard 13-lead ECG. Intracardiac electrophysiologic techniques included corrected sinus node rec...
