چکیده

Classification of Adrenal Cortical Disorders Lesions of the adrenals frequently cause disturbance of endocrine function. Various clinical syndromes may result, depending on whether the secretion is increased or diminished and, when it is increased, which hormones predominate. The lesions and syndromes may be classified as follows: A. WITH DISTURBANCE OF CORTICAL FUNCTION i. Increased Secretion: Lesions: (i) Hyperplasia. (ii) Adenoma. (iii) Carcinoma. Syndromes: Excess ofGlucocorticoids causes Cushing's syndrome. Androgens causes virilism (adreno-genital syndrome and some features of Cushing's syndrome). Oestrogens causes feminization. Electrocorticoids causes hyperaldosteronism (Conn's syndrome). 2. Decreased Secretion: Lesions: (i) Atrophy. (ii) Destruction by haemorrhage, infarct, tuberculosis, metastatic carcinoma, etc. (iii) Surgical removal. Syndromes: Chronic deficiency causes Addison's disease. Acute deficiency causes acute adrenal failure (adrenal crisis). B. WITHOUT DISTURBANCE OF FUNCTION Lesions: (i) Adenoma. (ii) Carcinoma. (iii) Rare tumours, cysts, etc.

PITUITARY DEPENDENT CUSHING\'S SYNDROME IN IRAN

During a 5-year experience with 32 adrenal tumors with different basic problems in the Department of Endocrinology , Taleghani Hospital, 25 were found pituitary dependent Cushing's syndrome, "Cushing's disease." The treatment of patients with Cushing's disease depends on the presence or absence of pituitary tumor. Ifno pituitary tumor is demonstrated, irradiation can be given to the pituit...

Clinicopathological correlates of adrenal Cushing's syndrome.

Endogenous Cushing's syndrome is a rare endocrine disorder that incurs significant cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, due to glucocorticoid excess. It comprises adrenal (20%) and non-adrenal (80%) aetiologies. While the majority of cases are attributed to pituitary or ectopic corticotropin (ACTH) overproduction, primary cortisol-producing adrenal cortical lesions are increasingly recognise...

Adrenal incidentalomas showing unilateral concordant visualization by adrenocortical scintigraphy: comparison with adenomas in Cushing's syndrome.

An adrenocortical adenoma causing Cushing's syndrome (Cushing's adenoma) produces a unilateral concordant visualization (UCV) imaging pattern in which the adenoma is only visualized on radioiodocholesterol adrenocortical scintigraphy. But because this imaging pattern is also noted in some patients with adrenal incidentalomas, we examined whether the UCV-incidentaloma was essentially identical w...

Daily blood pressure profile in Cushing's syndrome before and after surgery.

No significant difference has been demonstrated in the altered circadian blood pressure pattern between the pituitary-dependent and adrenal forms of Cushing's syndrome before surgery. The effect of therapy, however, proved to be different. The mesor was normalized in the pituitary-dependent Cushing's syndrome more conspicuously for systolic than for diastolic blood pressure. In Cushing's syndro...
