Class 11 (DR) Antigen Expression on CD8+ Lymphocyte Subsets in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)

چکیده
In a selected group of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients we confinn the expansion of a COS+ T-Iymphocyte subset, Le. , the CD8+/Leu7+ cells, which account for 300/0 ofthe Iymphocytes, compared to 3% in the control donors. In addition, a e08+ T-Iymphocyte suhset that coexpresses dass 11 (DR) antigens, Le., COS·,., DR+ cells, is also increased from 1.5% in controls to 27% in the HIV-infected patients. Using three<olor immunoftuorescence and flow cytometry we can demonstrate that the CD8+/Leu7+ and the CD8+/class 11+ cells are not distinct hut overlapping suhsets. In the HIV-infected patients 42% ofthe CD8+/Leu7 + celJs were strongly positive for class TI and these CD8+lLeu7+/ciass 11+ ceUs accounted for l3%of aillymphocytes. These findings indicate that the expanded CD8+ lLeu?+ cells are activated and hence might be actively involved in immune defense in acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Different distributions of lung and blood lymphocyte subsets in pediatric AIDS or tuberculosis.
Pulmonary immunity has not been studied in children with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or tuberculosis (TB), even though lungs of both children and adults infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) or Mycobacterium tuberculosis are affected frequently and severely. In the present studies, the distributions of T (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+) and B (CD19+) lymphocytes in bronchoalveolar ...

It has been suggested that prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation may induce immune alteration which may facilitate the development of cancer. However, over the past decades some scientists have reported that low-dose of ionizing radiation is not only a harmless agent but often is benefical. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of occupational exposure to low levels of io...

Background: Cytotoxic CD8+ T cells, as essential parts of the adaptive immune system, play pivotal roles in anti-tumor immune responses. It is well documented that cytokine expression profiles and activation status of these cells during anti-tumor immune responses affect the outcome of host-tumor interaction. Objective: To investigate the percentages of CD8+ lymphocytes and their subsets in...
متن کاملEnhanced T cell activation in Plasmodium falciparum malaria-infected human immunodeficiency virus-1 patients from Mozambique.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection has an important impact on malaria. Plasmodium falciparum and HIV-1 co-infected patients (Pf/HIV) present with a high degree of anaemia, enhanced parasitaemia and decreased CD4⁺ T cell counts, which increase the risk of developing severe malaria. In addition, infection with either Pf or HIV-1 alone causes extensive immune activation. Our hypothesis...
متن کاملA cytotoxic T lymphocyte inhibits acquired immunodeficiency syndrome virus replication in peripheral blood lymphocytes
CD8+ (suppressor/cytotoxic) lymphocytes block replication of HIV-1 or the simian immunodeficiency virus of macaques (SIVmac) in PBL of infected individuals. We now show that these CD8+ lymphocytes undergo clonal expansion in vivo after AIDS virus infection of the individual, suggesting they may be antigen-specific T cells. These CD8+ cells block replication of virus in autologous but not MHC cl...
