چکیده

The health industry has acquired a reputation as lagging in the use of IT. This reputation is usually based upon the relatively narrow measure of comparative IT expenditure, often examined as a proportion of total revenue. This study has been undertaken to assess health's use of IT using a broader frame of reference. The health industry was compared to the banking industry, on the basis that the banking industry is widely perceived as a leading IT user. The research confirmed that in these two 'knowledge' industries, health is slower to adopt IT with an apparent lower maturity level. This was the case across a range of best practice management, procedural and cultural topics as well as in the level of resources applied to IT.

Leader-laggard relationship of chaos synchronization in mutually coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers with time delay.

We experimentally and numerically observe synchronization of chaos in two mutually coupled vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) with time delay. We observe in-phase and antiphase synchronization of polarization-resolved chaotic temporal wave forms under the condition of wavelength matching. We investigate leader-laggard relationship between two chaotic wave forms of mutually coupled...

Ordering of random walks: the leader and the laggard

We investigate two complementary problems related to maintaining the relative positions of N random walks on the line: (i) the leader problem, that is, the probability LN(t) that the leftmost particle remains the leftmost as a function of time and (ii) the laggard problem, the probability RN(t) that the rightmost particle never becomes the leftmost. We map these ordering problems onto an equiva...
