چکیده

In this issue of Neuron, Genovesio et al. report that neurons in the frontal cortex encode the relative duration of appearance of two sensory signals, together with the features of each signal. Such representations could provide a neural basis for episodic memory.

The drawbridge phenomenon: representational reasoning or perceptual preference?

Two experiments investigated whether infants would look longer at a rotating "drawbridge" that appeared to violate physical laws because they knew that it was causally impossible, as claimed by R. Baillargeon, E. S. Spelke, and S. Wasserman (1985) and R. Baillargeon (1987a). Using a habituation paradigm, they reported that infants looked longer at a display that appeared impossible (rotated 180...

Configural and contextual prioritization in object-based attention.

When attention is directed to a location within an object, other locations within that object also enjoy an attentional advantage. Recently we demonstrated that this object-based advantage is mediated by increased attentional priority assigned to locations within an already attended object and not to early sensory enhancement due to the "spread" of attention within the attended object (Shomstei...

Working memory capacity accounts for the ability to switch between object-based and location-based allocation of visual attention.

Bleckley, Durso, Crutchfield, Engle, and Khanna (Psychonomic Bulletin & Review, 10, 884-889, 2003) found that visual attention allocation differed between groups high or low in working memory capacity (WMC). High-span, but not low-span, subjects showed an invalid-cue cost during a letter localization task in which the letter appeared closer to fixation than the cue, but not when the letter appe...

Task-specific modulation of memory for object features in natural scenes

The influence of visual tasks on short and long-term memory for visual features was investigated using a change-detection paradigm. Subjects completed 2 tasks: (a) describing objects in natural images, reporting a specific property of each object when a crosshair appeared above it, and (b) viewing a modified version of each scene, and detecting which of the previously described objects had chan...

مقایسه اثر 2 روش درمانی رایج و جدید روی شاخصهای درمانی در بیماران مبتلا به استئوآرتریت اولیه زانو

Knee osteoarthritis causes joint laxity, muscle weakness and atrophy. These factors compromise neuromuscular protective mechanisms of the muscle, cause excessive joint loading and increase pain and disability. This condition also causes balance impairment which in this patients may be due to proprioceptive impairment and quadriceps weakness. The object of the present study was to compar...
