چکیده

Laser forming of steel is a hot forming process with high heating and cooling rate, during which strain hardening, dynamic recrystallization, and phase transformation take place. Numerical models considering strain rate and temperature effects only usually give unsatisfactory results when applied to multiscan laser forming operations. This is mainly due to the inadequate constitutive models employed to describe the hot flow behavior. In this work, this limitation is overcome by considering the effects of microstructure change on the flow stress in laser forming processes of low carbon steel. The incorporation of such flow stress models with thermal mechanical FEM simulation increases numerical model accuracy in predicting geometry change and mechanical properties. @DOI: 10.1115/1.1459088#

Cooling Effects in Multiscan Laser Forming

For laser forming of sheet metal to become a practical production or rapid prototyping tool, multiscan, that is, to use a laser to scan the workpiece repeatedly is necessary in order to achieve the required magnitude of deformation. Between consecutive scans, substantial waiting time is normally necessary for the workpiece to cool down in order for a steep temperature gradient to be reestablish...

Effect of Cooling on Bending Angle and Microstructure in Laser Tube Bending with Circumferential Scanning

Laser tube bending is a flexible forming process. Two irradiation methods of axial and circumferential scanning are generally used to form metal tubes. The two most important disadvantages of circumferential scanning are its lower bending angle and the time interval required between each scan for cooling purpose. In this research, a novel cooling strategy during laser tube bending with circumfe...
