(Lay) PD in the small: Everyday grassroot innovations
نویسنده
چکیده
The current society can be associated with such terms as information and technology winners, expert systems, and ‘know-how’. While members’ active participation has been seen as important, neither the shift from information usage to information technology (IT) usage is fully understood, nor is the source of innovation. In this paper, a framework for studying grassroot innovating conditions is developed and applied to a (lay) participatory design (PD) in a non-profit community. As a grassroot innovation, this self-developed IT setup is epitomizing natural activity systems where PD in the small joins wider systems design. From the viewpoint of grassroot actors, different IT setups and conditions influence and produce different innovationing. This is an important consideration for the design of collaborative systems and for informing related IT practices.

Digital Enablement: Social Media in Empowering the Grassroot Environmental Movement of Malaysia
This study examines the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in mobilizing grassroot environmental movements. In recent years, the rise of social media has allowed the community to assume the role of driver without relying on central and formal leadership in people movements. Yet how this new form of technology enables grassroot organizing has remained theoretically obscure. ...
متن کاملTheoretical Study of OH Adsorption on PdxCu3-x (x = 0-3) Nano Clusters
Adsorption of OH on the PdxCu3-x(x=0-3) small clusters is investigated by density functional theory calculations. It is found that OH adsorbs in three possible modes including on top, bridge and hollow sites while the structures where OH bridges between two atoms are the most stable structures. The Pd-Pd, Pd-Cu and Cu-Cu equilibrium distances for most of the systems...
متن کاملNurturing Societal Values in and Through Health Innovations; Comment on “What Health System Challenges Should Responsible Innovation in Health Address?”
Aligning innovation processes in healthcare with health system demands is a societal objective, not always achieved. In line with earlier contributions, Lehoux et al outline priorities for research, public communication, and policy action to achieve this objective. We endorse setting these priorities, while also highlighting a ‘commitment gap’ in collectively addressing system-level challenges....

Background. Common but seldom published are Parkinson's disease (PD) medication errors involving late, extra, or missed doses. These errors can reduce medication effectiveness and the quality of life of people with PD and their caregivers. Objective. To explore lay perspectives of factors contributing to medication timing errors for PD in hospital and community settings. Design and Methods. Thi...
