چکیده

Efficiency of a sequential ultrafiltration – ion exchange purification system was studied by testing separation of an anionic surfactant (SDBS) from aqueous solutions. Commercially available ultrafiltration membranes with cut-off values of 5, 10, and 30 kDa were used for the tests. The ion exchange processes were carried out on five types of ion-exchange resins – both macroporous and gel-based. Overall efficiency of the integrated purification system was determined by numerous parameters, including quality of the solution to be purified, membrane material type, membrane cut-off value, the type of ion-exchange resin, its dose, and solution contact time of the ion-exchange resin. It was shown that the application of ion exchange constitutes a highly effective final purification stage after the membrane process. The obtained results allowed for listing the integrated systems in the following descending efficiency order depending on the resin being used: MIEX > SBW > A400 > A200 > A100.

Aggregation of an anionic azo dye with conventional cationic surfactants in premicellar region: A conductometric study

The interaction of Congo Red CR with a series of Alkyltrimethylamoniumbromide CnTAB, N-hexadecylpyridinium bromide CPB and N-hexadecylpyridinium CPC were investigated using conductometry technique. It was observed that the formation of dye-surfactant ion pairs takes place at surfactant concentration far below the critical micelle concentration of the individual surfactants. Aggregation was refl...

Removal of Manganese from an Aqueous Solution Using Micellar-Enhanced Ultrafiltration (MEUF) with SDS Surfactants

In the present study, micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) was used to remove manganese (Mn) (II) from synthetic wastewater. The effects of different operational conditions on the filtration performance of MEUF or the membrane were studied. It was found that the transmembrane pressure has a major influence on the permeate flux and an insignificant effect on the rejection coefficient. The pe...

Coductometric studies of the interaction of acid green 25 with cationic alkyltrimethylammonium bromid surfactants

The interactions between an anionic dye, Acid Green 25 AG and the two cationic surfactants tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide TTAB, and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide CTAB in aqueous solutions far below the CMC are studied using the conductometric method at different temperature. The equilibrium constants and other thermodynamic functions for the process of dye-surfactant ion pair formatio...

Possibilities for recycling cellulases after use in cotton processing: part II: Separation of cellulases from reaction products and released dyestuffs by ultrafiltration.

The adsorption and activity of a total cellulase (Trichoderma reesei) was measured and compared on undyed and dyed cotton fabrics. Recovery of enzymes from the reaction mixture and by desorption from the cotton substrate was evaluated. About 80% of the initial protein could be recovered. The removal of released products (soluble reducing sugars and dyes) from the treatment liquor and subsequent...

Influence of Surfactants on the Removal of AOX Using Micellar- Enhanced Ultrafiltration

This paper presents the development of a model for evaluating adsorbable organic halogens’ (AOX) removal efficiency during wastewater treatment by using the micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) technique. Surfactants can form larger aggregates (micelles) were prepared into which AOXs dissolve and are then retained by the membrane. Synthetic wastewater samples containing certain concentratio...
