OWL DL: Trees or Triples?

چکیده

The Web Ontology Language (OWL) defines three classes of documents: Lite, DL and Full. All RDF/XML documents are OWL Full documents, some OWL Full documents are also OWL DL documents, and some OWL DL documents are also OWL Lite documents. This paper discusses parsing and species recognition – that is the process of determining whether a given document falls into the OWL Lite, DL or Full class. We described two alternative approaches to this task, one based on abstract syntax trees, the other on RDF triples, and compare their key characteristics.

On Ordering and Indexing Metadata for the Semantic Web

RDF underlies a vision of the Semantic Web in which metadata, consisting of a set of subject/property/object triples, can be associated with web resources denoted by Universal Resource Identifiers (URIs) [1]. To support reasoning, there has been a progression of further standards for inferring the existence of additional triples. This is accomplished by adding interpretations for particular RDF...

PR-OWL 2 RL - A Language for Scalable Uncertainty Reasoning on the Semantic Web information

Probabilistic OWL (PR-OWL) improves the Web Ontology Language (OWL) with the ability to treat uncertainty using Multi-Entity Bayesian Networks (MEBN). PR-OWL 2 presents a better integration with OWL and its underlying logic, allowing the creation of ontologies with probabilistic and deterministic parts. However, there are scalability problems since PR-OWL 2 is built upon OWL 2 DL which is a ver...

WSML Deliverable D 20 . 1 v 0 . 2 OWL −

This deliverable presents restricted variants of the OWL Lite, DL and Full species of the OWL ontology language, called OWL Lite−, OWL DL− and OWL Full−, respectively. OWL Lite− and OWL DL− are strict subsets of OWL Lite and OWL DL. They are limited in such a way that there exists a translation from both languages directly into the deductive database language Datalog. Thus, any OWL Lite− or OWL...

Representing Transitive Propagation in OWL

Transitive propagation along properties can be modelled in various ways in the OWL description logic. Doing so allows existing description logic reasoners based on the tableaux algorithm to make inferences based on such transitive constructs. This is espectially useful for medical knowledge bases, where such constructs are common. This paper compares, contrasts and evaluates a variety of differ...

Tracking Changes through EARMARK: a Theoretical Perspective and an Implementation

The Extremely Annotational RDF Markup, a.k.a. EARMARK, is an OWL 2 DL ontology that defines document meta-markup. It is an ontologically precise definition of markup that instantiates the structure of a text document as an independent OWL document outside of the text string it annotates, and through appropriate OWL and SWRL characterizations it can define organizations such as trees or graphs a...
