Sampling sets and quadrature formulae on the rotation group

چکیده
In this paper we construct sampling sets over the rotation group SO(3). The proposed construction is based on a parameterization, which reflects the product nature S2 × S1 of SO(3) very well, and leads to a spherical Pythagorean-like formula in the parameter domain. We prove that by using uniformly distributed points on S2 and S1 we obtain uniformly sampling nodes on the rotation group SO(3). Furthermore, quadrature formulae on S2 and S1 lead to quadratures on SO(3), as well. For scattered data on SO(3) we give a necessary condition on the mesh norm such that the sampling nodes possess nonnegative quadrature weights. We propose an algorithm for computing the quadrature weights for scattered data on SO(3) based on fast algorithms. We confirm our theoretical results with examples and numerical tests.

A unified approach to scattered data approximation on S3 and SO(3)
In this paper we use the connection between the rotation group SO(3) and the three-dimensional Euclidean sphere S3 in order to carry over results of the three-sphere directly to the rotation group and vice versa. More precisely, these results connect properties of sampling sets and quadrature formulae on SO(3) and S3, respectively. Furthermore we relate Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund inequalities and co...
متن کاملQuadrature formulae of non-standard type
We discuss quadrature formulae of highest algebraic degree of precision for integration of functions of one or many variables which are based on non-standard data, i.e., in which the information used is different from the standard sampling of function values. Among the examples given in this survey is a quadrature formula for integration over the disk, based on linear integrals on n chords, whi...
متن کاملShort Communication Gauss Legendre quadrature over a triangle
This paper presents a Gauss Legendre quadrature method for numerical integration over the standard triangular surface: {(x, y) | 0 , 1, 1} x y x y ≤ ≤ + ≤ in the Cartesian two-dimensional (x, y) space. Mathematical transformation from (x, y) space to (ξ, η) space map the standard triangle in (x, y) space to a standard 2-square in (ξ, η) space: {(ξ, η)|–1 ≤ ξ, η ≤ 1}. This overcomes the difficul...

متن کاملInfluence of Rotation on Vibration Behavior of a Functionally Graded Moderately Thick Cylindrical Nanoshell Considering Initial Hoop Tension
In this research, the effect of rotation on the free vibration is investigated for the size-dependent cylindrical functionally graded (FG) nanoshell by means of the modified couple stress theory (MCST). MCST is applied to make the design and the analysis of nano actuators and nano sensors more reliable. Here the equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived using minimum potential ene...
