چکیده

A reductive analysis of factors limiting growth of plants subjected to Cd treatment is made in this review. The non-specific character of Cd phytotoxicity and its negative effects on the basic growth components: RGR, NAR, LAR, SLA, etc. are presented. An attempt to connect the changes in plant growth with some effects of Cd on water relations, dark respiration, and photosynthesis was made. It was established that growth inhibition is mainly due to disorders both in dark respiration and photosynthesis. Decreased photosynthetic rate is a consequence of the negative Cd effects on a number of different sites of this process and mainly on the biochemical reactions of Calvin’s cycle. Some unclear sides of the problem of Cd phytotoxicity that could be the object of further investigations are pointed out.

The effect of cadmium on growth and composition of essential oils of Mentha piperita L.

Cadmium is a non-essential element that induces various toxic responses in plants when accumulated above the threshold level. The aim of the present research was to study the effect of cadmium on growth factors, concentration of cadmium in the rhizomes and leaves, and quality and quantity of essential oils in the leaves of Mentha piperita L. The experiment was carried out in a completely random...

Effect of irrigation with treated wastewater on lead and cadmium accumulations in soil and sweet pepper plant

Background and Objective: Limited water resources in arid and semi-arid regions are one of the major limiting factors in agricultural production. Thus, unconventional water resources, such as urban treated wastewater, may be used for irrigation. Application of wastewater to the soil may cause accumulation of heavy metals (HMs). Soil pollution causes uptake of these metals by plants and their en...

تاثیر همزیستی میکوریزایی بر رشد، برخی صفات فیزیولوژیکی و تجمع کادمیوم در گیاه سیاهدانه (Nigella sativa L.)

The environmental changes by human activities lead to contamination of natural ecosystems and agricultural lands to heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd), which enumerates the most important environmental pollutants. This experiment was conducted for study of cadmium and mycorrhizal symbiosis effects on growth and physiological parameters as well as cadmium accumulation in Black seed (Nigella sativ...

Effect of Municipal Wastewater on the Accumulation of Heavy Metals Cadmium and Lead in Soil and Corn

Background and Objective: Using wastewater as a renewable water source to irrigate plants is a safe and effective solution. In contrast, the accumulation of heavy elements in soil and plants is one of the concerns of the use of wastewater in agriculture. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of urban wastewater use on the most important physiological parameters related to the grow...

Salt Requirement for Crassulacean Acid Metabolism in the Annual Succulent, Mesembryanthemum crystallinum.

In experiments with the facultative Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species, Mesembryanthemum crystallinum, only plants which received high levels of inorganic salts fixed substantial amounts of CO(2) by the CAM pathway. Equivalent osmolarities of polyethylene glycol 6000 did not yield any CAM fixation. Plant water potential and turgor pressure had no detectable influence on the amount of CA...
