چکیده

The removal of transition metal ions is crucial for improving the efficiency of subsequent peroxide bleaching. Acid-washing and chelation have been proposed for such a purpose. However, their influences on the Mg(OH)2-based peroxide bleaching of hardwood pulps at a high consistency have not been well documented in the literature. In this work, we studied the influence of acid-washing using sulfuric acid or chelation using diethylenetriaminepentaacetic (DTPA) on the Mg(OH)2or NaOHbased hydrogen peroxide bleaching efficiency, effluent properties of bleaching filtrates, and paper properties. The results showed that for Mg(OH)2-based peroxide bleaching, the pulp yield and water retention value of acid-washed pulp were higher than those of the chelated pulp; the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and turbidity of the bleaching filtrates for the acid-washed pulp were lower than those of the chelated pulp. The bleached acid-washed pulp had lower strength properties than bleached chelated pulp did. Additionally, at a high pulp consistency (25%), the Mg(OH)2-based process had a higher bleaching efficiency and superior bleaching effluent properties, but a lower strength properties, in comparison with the NaOH-based process.

Applied Study of Birch Pulp Bleaching Using Dimethyldioxirane to Obtain Acetate-grade Pulp

As a pulp bleaching agent, dimethyldioxirane (DMD) is effective and selective. In this study, it was employed as a delignifying agent or as an activating agent for hydrogen peroxide treatment in bleaching acetategrade pulp. Brightness, kappa number, degree of polymerization (DP), and alpha-cellulose content were evaluated to determine the optimal charges of DMD: 2.5% AO, and 4% HSO5, respective...

Effect of chelating agents on heavy metal extraction from contaminated soils

In the present study shacking and incubation experiments were carried out in order to evaluate the changes in heavy metal solubility in the studied soils by addition of different concentration of Ethylene dinitrilo tetra acetic acid (EDTA), Diethylene triamine penta acetic acid (DTPA), and Nitrilo tri acetic acid (NTA). The effects of EDTA, DTPA and NTA application on solubility of Copper (Cu),...

Improved detection by time-resolved fluorometry of specific DNA immobilized in microtiter wells with europium/metal-chelator labelled DNA probes.

Recent ly , a cloned DNA probe l a b e l l e d wi th m e t a l c h e l a t o r s ( d i ethylentriamine pentaacetate, DTPA) was used in a dot-blot hybridization assay for the non-radioactive detection of down to 1 attomol target DNA by europium time-resolved fluorometry (1). We now report modifications of the procedure which led to a more than tenfold increase in sensitivity. A DTPA-labelled, HB...

Characterization of the metabotropic glutamate receptors mediating phospholipase C activation and calcium release in cerebellar granule cells: calcium-dependence of the phospholipase C response.

In this study we have determined the metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) involved in the glutamate activation of phospholipase C (PLC) and Ca(2+) mobilization in cerebellar granule cells at 9 days in vitro; and studied the Ca(2+) modulation of the PLC response. Both PLC activation and Ca(2+) signalling were found to be mediated exclusively by the mGluR1 subtype, although both group I mGlu...
