چکیده

Mitigating the global warming greenhouse effect while maintaining a fossil fuel economy, requires improving efficiency of utilization of fossil fuels, use of high hydrogen content fossil fuels, decarbonization of fossil fuels, and sequestering of carbon and CO2 applied to all the sectors of the economy, electric power generation, transportation, and industrial, and domestic power and heat generation. Decarbonization means removal of carbon as C or CO2 either before or after fossil fuel combustion and sequestration means disposal of the recovered C or CO2 including its utilization. Removal and recovery of CO2 from power generation plants and sequestration in the ocean represents one possibility of making a major impact on reducing CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. This paper will briefly review the progress made in ocean disposal and present some alternative schemes.

Hyperspectral Remote Sensing for Geologic Carbon Sequestration Field Monitoring

In order to constrain the growth of atmospheric CO2, Geologic Carbon Sequestration (GCS) has been proposed as one “clean coal” technology for mitigating the more extreme impacts of global warming. An important issue to ensure the successful storage of carbon dioxide in geologic sequestration sites is the ability to monitor these sites for possible leakage. More understanding of CO2 storage proc...

Microbial Carbonic Anhydrases in Biomimetic Carbon Sequestration for Mitigating Global Warming: Prospects and Perspectives

All the leading cities in the world are slowly becoming inhospitable for human life with global warming playing havoc with the living conditions. Biomineralization of carbon dioxide using carbonic anhydrase (CA) is one of the most economical methods for mitigating global warming. The burning of fossil fuels results in the emission of large quantities of flue gas. The temperature of flue gas is ...

Forest Carbon Sequestration: Some Issues for Forest Investments

A major problem being faced by human society is that the global temperature is believed to be rising due to human activity that releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, i.e., global warming. The major culprit is thought to be fossil fuel burning, which is releasing increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The problem of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide can be addressed a n...

Today, climate change and global warming caused by the emission of greenhouse gases is a big challenge to the world, especially in arid and semi-arid area. Afforestation is the most effective strategy to absorb carbon dioxide in terrestrial ecosystems and reduce global warming of the earth. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of planting Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Amygdalus s...

Satellite Remote Sensing for Geologic Carbon Sequestration Field Monitoring

Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases generated by human activities which, by virtue of its impact on global climate through “Greenhouse Warming”, are implicated in extreme environmental impacts such as more prevalent and more intense storms, bushfires, floods, droughts and heat waves. In order to constrain the growth of atmospheric CO2, Geologic Carbon Sequestration (GCS) has bee...
