Condensate Wave Function of Neutral Bose Atoms in Power-Law Traps

چکیده

The macroscopic quantum states of a condensed neutral Bose gas in one-dimensional power-law traps are obtained by solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation numerically. A suitable candidate for a trial wave function for the variational calculation of the ground-state energy is suggested. It is shown that the suggested function exp(−r), where k is the power of the trap, produces a lower ground-state energy than the conventional Gaussian trial wave function.

We relate the entropies of ensembles of atoms in optical lattices to atoms in simple traps. We then determine which ensembles of lattice-bound atoms will adiabatically transform into a Bose condensate. This shows a feasible approach to Bose condensation without evaporative cooling.
