چکیده
Introduction / objectives Tracheobronchial tree colonization is considered an important risk factor for the development of ventilatorassociated pneumonia (VAP). The aim of the present study was to examine microbiologically the respiratory tract flora of mechanically ventilated patients hospitalized in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of our institution for the detection of colonization with important bacterial pathogens.

Microbial colonization of endotracheal tube in intensive care unit patients
Microbial biofilms has remained a major complication of tracheal intubation in patients requiring ventilator equipment. The aim of this study was to characterize bacterial and fungal biofilms in endotracheal tubes from intensive care unit (ICU) patients in Ahwaz, Iran. In this cross-sectional descriptive study, patients admitted to ICU that required mechanical ventilation for at least 24 hours ...

Introduction:ventilator- associated pneumonia(VAP),as defined by the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC),is a pneumonia that occurs in a patient receiving mechanical ventilation that develops 48 hours or more after initiation of ventilation.re-intubation which occur within 72 hours of planned extubation may effect VAP incidence.the aim of this study was to determine VAP incidence i...

Three cases of Pseudomonas thoracic empyema occurring in nasotracheally intubated patients are reported. Paranasal rhinosinusitis, a well documented complication of prolonged nasotracheal intubation, could be the primary infectious location. Massive respiratory tract colonization leads to extensive necrotizing pulmonary lesions. Failure of diagnosis and treatment of sinus involvement could be r...
متن کاملDifficult intubation and outcomes in intubated patients admitted to intensive care unit
Background & Aims: Endotracheal intubation is commonly performed in the intensive care unit. Many international guidelines for difficult intubation management are available and the intensivists think that any endotracheal intubation in ICU is potentially difficult with several complications. Materials & Methods: After obtaining ethical approval, this descriptive and analytical study was cond...
متن کاملThe effect of a designed Care Plan on the incidence of aspiration in intubated patients: A randomized clinical trial
Background : Patients hospitalized in intensive care unit are at risk of aspiration and subsequent complications due to factors such as endotracheal tube, mechanical ventilation, and decreased level of consciousness. Aspiration of gastric residuals to the lung is one of the preventable lesions in patients who are feeding by tube and under mechanical ventilation. This study was conducted to deter...
