Flight Path Estimation Using Multipath Delay Measurements from a Wide Aperture Acoustic Array
نویسندگان
چکیده
The flight path of an aircraft travelling at constant velocity and constant altitude is described by a set of five motion parameters which can be estimated using a ground-based wide aperture acoustic array. The narrowband motion parameter estimation method, based on the Doppler effect, requires the aircraft to emit an acoustic tone that is often absent in the case of a jet aircraft. The motion parameter estimation for jet aircraft or other airborne broadband acoustic sources requires the implementation of broadband techniques. However, existing broadband techniques are based on crosscorrelation methods whose performances are seriously degraded when the inter-sensor spacings are too large (as for the wide aperture array) due to the loss of spatial coherence between the received signals. In this paper, a new broadband motion parameter estimation method is described, which does not require spatial coherence between the received signals. The method is based on the multipath delay measurements from each sensor of the array. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated using real data recorded from a wide aperture microphone array during various transits of a jet aircraft.

On Modeling of A Mobile Multipath Fading Channel
Multipath fading is one of the major practical concerns in wireless communications. Multipath problem always exists in mobile environment, especially for mobile unit which is often embedded in its surroundings. A time-variant tapped line delay model has been used for multipath fading in a wide-band spread spectrum mobile system. In this paper, we proposed to use the detection and estimation tec...
متن کاملSonar Signal Processing Methods for the Detection and Localization of Fast Surface Watercraft and Underwater Swimmers in a Harbour Environment
Cavitation inception behind each blade of a rapidly rotating propeller generates intense continuous broadband sound underwater. This sound can be considered as an acoustic signal propagating in the underwater medium where it can be received by a single hydrophone located above the sea floor. Reflections of the sound from the boundaries of the shallow water medium result in multipath arrivals at...

Time delay estimation between signals received at two spatially separated sensors has many important applications such as transmitter linearization [1], synchronization in communication systems [2], speech enhancement, determination of the centre of earthquakes, and source localization in sonar and radio systems [3, 4]. متن کاملCramér-Rao Lower Bound for UWB Delay Estimation in Multipath Conditions
The accuracy of wide band propagation delay estimation is characterized. The Cramér-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) for delay estimation in multipath conditions is presented in terms of the Ricean K-factor, the ratio of direct to diffuse multipath components. The validity of the derivation is demonstrated using thousands of measurements, where the K-factor is estimated in the spectral domain.

A passive acoustic method is presented for tracking sperm whale dive profiles, using two or three hydrophones deployed as either a vertical or large-aperture towed array. The relative arrival times between the direct and surface-reflected acoustic paths are used to obtain the ranges and depths of animals with respect to the array, provided that the hydrophone depths are independently measured. ...
