چکیده

His current research interests are in the areas of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and high-speed networks and in particular of ATM switching. Mr. Kolias is a student member of the IEEE. 12 A and B have ultimately the same eeect, in terms of throughput, and under a saturation situation; so our remarks in the previous subsection are reinforced here. 4 CONCLUSION It is apparent that buuering (location, size, contention resolution) in an ATM switching system is of great importance to the switch designer, in terms of complexity, eeciency and certainly cost (i.e. hardware implementation). In this paper we were concerned with the performance eeciency of input-buuered switches, acknowledging that the other factors are signiicant too. In that respect, we studied various schemes using multiple input-queueing as their buuering strategy by analyzing their performance in terms of throughput and demonstrated how throughput can be improved. performance evaluation and design of many kinds of networks (e.g. packet switching networks, packet radio networks, local area networks, metropolitan area networks, broadband and gigabit networks) and of parallel and distributed systems.

Discrete Time Analysis of Multi-Server Queueing System with Multiple Working Vacations and Reneging of Customers‎

This paper analyzes a discrete-time $Geo/Geo/c$ queueing system with multiple working vacations and reneging in which customers arrive according to a geometric process. As soon as the system gets empty, the servers go to a working vacations all together. The service times during regular busy period, working vacation period and vacation times are assumed to be geometrically distributed. Customer...

Effective bandwidth for a single server queueing system with fractional Brownian input

The traffic patterns of today’s IP networks exhibit two important properties: self-similarity and long-range dependence. The fractional Brownian motion is widely used for representing the traffic model with the properties. We consider a single server fluid queueing system with input process of a fractional Brownian motion type. Formulas for effective bandwidth are derived in a single source and...

High Speed Networks ANALYTICAL ANALYSIS OF ATM SWITCHES WITH MULTIPLE INPUT QUEUES WITH BURSTY TRAFFIC*

A queueing model for a novel multiple input-queued ATM switch under i.i.d bursty traffic modeled by 2state Markov Modulated Bernoulli Processes (MMBPs) is proposed. A Quasi-Birth-Death (QBD) chain is constructed as the underlying Markov chain of the queueing model. Each input port of the switch maintains N separate queues each for buffering cells destined to one of the N outputs and an efficien...

A discrete-time queueing network model of a hub-based OBS architecture

We propose and analyze a novel discrete-time queueing network model of a zero loss hub-based Optical Burst Switched (OBS) architecture, consisting of multiple input edge nodes and one destination edge node. The arrival process of bursts is slotted with bulk arrivals as generated by a Time and Burst-Length based burst aggregation algorithm. The queueing network is analyzed by decomposition. We o...

A Linear System Approach to QoS Control

We present a novel service discipline, called linear service discipline, to serve multiple QoS queues sharing a bandwidth resource and analyze its properties. The linear server makes the output traffic and the queueing dynamics of individual queues as a linear function of its input traffic. In particular, if input traffic is Gaussian, the distributions of queue length and output traffic are als...

A linear system approach to serving Gaussian traffic in packet-switching networks

We present a novel service discipline, called linear service discipline, to serve multiple QoS queues sharing a resource and analyze its properties. The linear server makes the output traffic and the queueing dynamics of individual queues as a linear function of its input traffic. In particular, if input traffic is Gaussian, the distributions of queue length and output traffic are also Gaussian...
