چکیده
Abstract: Numerical visualization of heat transport for convective heat transfer were studied by two-dimensional heat function formulation within a trapezoidal cavity, differentially heated in the vertical direction, is presented. Penalty finite element method is used to obtain the isotherm lines, streamlines and heatlines to perceive the understanding of heat and fluid flow. Numerical results are presented for Rayleigh numbers, Ra = 103, 106 and Prandtl numbers, Pr = 0.7 and 10. For low Rayleigh number Ra = 103 it is observed from the heatlines that the heat is transported from the hot wall to the cold wall uniformly. For Ra = 106 the heat transfer is more intense at the lower-left and upper-right walls of the cavity. Flow characteristics depends strongly on the Rayleigh number and Prandtl number for various side wall inclination angles φ = 45◦, 30◦ and 0. Maximum value of heatline provides directly the value of the average Nusselt number. The secondary circulations were observed for Ra = 106. Heatlines were observed to predict the energy transfer better than isothermal lines.

Natural Convection and Entropy Generation in Nanofluid Filled Entrapped Trapezoidal Cavities under the Influence of Magnetic Field
In this article, entropy generation due to natural convection in entrapped trapezoidal cavities filled with nanofluid under the influence of magnetic field was numerically investigated. The upper (lower) enclosure is filled with CuO-water (Al2O3-water) nanofluid. The top and bottom horizontal walls of the trapezoidal enclosures are maintained at constant hot temperature while other inclined wal...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of natural convection phenomena in uniformly heated trapezoidal Cylinder inside an elliptical Enclosure
A numerical study of the natural convection of the laminar heat transfers in the stationary state was developed in a horizontal ring and compared between a heated trapezoidal internal cylinder and a cold elliptical outer cylinder. This annular space is traversed by a Newtonian and incompressible fluid. The Prandtl number is set to 0.7 (air case) for different Rayleigh numbers. The system of equ...
متن کاملEnhancement of Natural Convection Heat Transfer in Annular Enclosures
Natural convection heat transfer was investigated experimentally in a concentric-cylinders annulus. To enhance the rate of heat transfer, pin fins were installed on the surface of the inner cylinder. Two fin arrangements were employed, namely, staggered and in-line arrangements. The length of the fins varied from 2 to 8 cm and the Rayleigh number Ra changed in the range from 5 x 105 to 5 x 106...
متن کاملBejan’s Heatlines and Masslines for Convection Visualization and Analysis
Heatlines were proposed in 1983 by Kimura and Bejan (1983) as adequate tools for visualization and analysis of convection heat transfer. The masslines, their equivalent to apply to convection mass transfer, were proposed in 1987 by Trevisan and Bejan. These visualization and analysis tools proved to be useful, and their application in the fields of convective heat and/or mass transfer is still ...
متن کاملHeatline visualization of natural convection in a porous cavity occupied by a fluid with temperature dependent viscosity
Temperature dependent viscosity effect in buoyancy driven flow, of a gas or a liquid, in an enclosure filled with a porous medium is studied numerically, based on the general model of momentum transfer in a porous medium. The Arrhenius model, which proposes an exponential form of viscosity-temperature relation, is applied to examine three cases of viscositytemperature relation: constant, decrea...
