چکیده

This paper discusses the modelling of a Unit-of-Learning (UoL) (e.g. a lesson, a course) in e-learning. So far, the modelling of UoLs has been heavily focused on the definition and organization of contents. Currently, social and constructivist pedagogical approaches are demanding that learners get involved in more actual activities (e.g. solving problems, pairwork, group work). Educational Modelling Languages (EMLs) have been proposed to support the modelling of such activity-based UoLs. In this way, EMLs enable the definition of learning environments, goals, participants, etc. Nevertheless, the elements provided by current EMLs are not sufficient to model certain learning activities, mainly those involved in active and collaborative learning scenarios. In this paper we identify a set of perspectives and patterns that should be considered in an EML to support the design of collaborative UoLs.

Workflow-oriented E-learning Moving from Contents towards Activities

A basic stance for almost all learning theories is that a person learns by (inter-)acting with his/her environment. So, in order to formalize a learning process it is necessary to categorize its activities and environment. Recent developments in the learning domain support both formalizations broadly: Activity Theory (AT) provides a unified view of how to specify generic learning elements at a ...

Collocational Processing in Two Languages: A psycholinguistic comparison of monolinguals and bilinguals

With the renewed interest in the field of second language learning for the knowledge of collocating words, research findings in favour of holistic processing of formulaic language could support the idea that these language units facilitate efficient language processing. This study investigated the difference between processing of a first language (L1) and a second language (L2) of congruent col...

Fundamentals of 3D modelling and resource estimation in coal mining

The prerequisite of maintaining an efficient and safe mining operation is the proper design of a mine by considering all aspects. The first step in a coal mine design is a realistic geometrical modelling of the coal seam(s). The structural features such as faults and folding must be reliably implemented in 3D seam models. Upon having a consistent seam model, the attributes such as calorific val...
