چکیده

A hip fracture dislocation with contralateral femur fracture is a rare combination. We report a case of neglected posterior dislocation of hip with Pipkins-II femoral head and medial condylar fractures associated with a contralateral femoral shaft fracture. Right hip joint was approached via the Kocher-Langenbeck, following reduction, femoral head fragments were fixed with two 4-mm cannulated cancellous screws with open reduction internal fixation plating of ipsilateral femoral condylar fracture and closed reduction internal fixation nailing of left femur in the same sitting. Immediate postoperative X-rays were satisfactory. Postoperative period was uneventful. Over 7-year follow-up, patient is successfully performing his duties with X-rays bearing no signs of avascular necrosis (AVN) or hip arthritis. Thus, complex femoral fractures require a multidisciplinary approach for successful treatment. Early congruous reduction, anatomical fixation and early rehabilitation help in reducing the incidence of AVN and postoperative arthritis. Successful diagnosis of Pipkin's fracture dislocations requires use of CT, MRI and ultrasound in adjunct to X-rays.

An Unusual Variant of Pipkin's Fracture Dislocation of Hip: A Case Report

INTRODUCTION Injuries of the hip joint from pure hip dislocations to fracture dislocations have been described and classified by various authors. These descriptions do not include fracture dislocation of hip associated with fracture of the greater trochanter. Bilateral Simultaneous Femoral Neck and Shafts Fractures – A Case Report

Simultaneous fractures of the femoral neck and shaft are not common injuries, though they cannot be considered rare. Herein, we report our experience with a patient with bilateral occurance of this injury. Up to the best of our knowkedge this is the first case reported in literature in which correct diagnosis was made initially. Both femurs were fixed using broad 4.5 mm dynamic compression pl...

Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing of Femoral Shaft Fracture-Experience in 48 Children

Background: Femoral shaft fractures are an incapacitating pediatric injury accounting for 1.6% of all pediatric bonyinjuries. Management of these fractures is largely directed by age, fracture pattern, associated injuries, built of the childand socioeconomic status of the family. We retrospectively evaluated the use of elastic stable intramedullary nail (ESIN)in surgical management of femoral s...

Open intramedullary nailing of neglected femoral shaft fractures: indications and outcome.

The management of neglected femoral shaft fractures poses a challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. We evaluated the outcome of open intramedullary nailing of neglected femoral shaft fractures at our centre. A total of 52 patients with 55 femoral shaft fractures, with a mean age of 39.6 years, were studied. The mean interval from injury to presentation was 24 weeks (range = 4-156). Mean time to a...
