Spin-dependent transport in cluster-assembled nanostructures: influence of cluster size and matrix material

چکیده
Spin-dependent transport in granular metallic nanostructures has been investigated by means of a thermoelectric measurement. Cobalt clusters of well-defined size (〈n〉 = 15− 600) embedded in copper and silver matrices show magnetic field responses of up to several hundred percent at low temperature. The experimental observations are identified as due to spin mixing. The influence of cluster size and matrix

Enhanced magnetic field sensitivity of spin-dependent transport in cluster-assembled metallic nanostructures.
The emerging field of spintronics explores the many possibilities offered by the prospect of using the spin of the electrons for fast, nanosized electronic devices. The effect of magnetization acting on a current is the essence of giant or tunnel magnetoresistance. Although such spintronics effects already find technological applications, much of the underlying physics remains to be explored. T...
متن کاملInter-cluster distance dependence of electrical conduction in nanocluster assembled films of silver: a new paradigm for design of nanostructures
The transport properties of films assembled from metal nanoclusters can be significantly different from the metals in their bulk or thin film forms due to quantum confinement effects and several competing energy and length scales. For a film composed of metal nanoclusters as its building blocks, the cluster size and the inter-cluster separation are parameters that can be varied experimentally. ...
متن کاملTransport through quantum dots: a combined DMRG and embedded-cluster approximation study
The numerical analysis of strongly interacting nanostructures requires powerful techniques. Recently developed methods, such as the time-dependent density matrix renormalization group (tDMRG) approach or the embedded-cluster approximation (ECA), rely on the numerical solution of clusters of finite size. For the interpretation of numerical results, it is therefore crucial to understand finite-si...
متن کاملInteraction effects in dilute cluster-assembled magnetic nanostructures
We have prepared dilute nanostructured magnetic samples by codeposition of preformed cobalt clusters with a narrow size distribution around 40 atoms per cluster in silver matrices. Magnetoresistance measurements are used to derive information about the magnetic structure of the samples. Effects of cluster size distribution or anisotropy can be neglected in our samples. Deviations from simple La...
متن کاملSize-selected monodisperse nanoclusters on supported graphene: bonding, isomerism, and mobility.
Soft-landing of size-selected Pd(n) (n ≤ 20) nanoclusters on a Moiré-patterned surface of graphene adsorbed on Ru(0001) leads to controlled formation of a truly monodisperse cluster-assembled material. Combined scanning tunneling microscopy and first-principles calculations allow identification of selective adsorption sites, characterization of size-dependent cluster isomers, and exploration of...
