چکیده

A targeted gold nanoparticle has been developed as a contrast agent for photoacoustic medical imaging. We have studied cancer cell targeting by antibody conjugated gold nanorods for high contrast photoacoustic imaging. By changing the aspect ratio of the elongated “rod” shape of the gold nanoparticle, its plasmon peak absorption wavelength can be tuned to the near IR 700–900 nm for an increased penetration depth into biological tissue. Effective cell targeting and sensitive photoacoustic detection of a single layer of cells are demonstrated. Combining ultrasound with contrast agent based photoacoustic imaging is proposed as a visual tool to compound molecular and structural information for early stage prostate cancer detection. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. Engineered Zn(II)-Dipicolylamine-Gold Nanorod Provides Effective Prostate Cancer Treatment by Combining siRNA Delivery and Photothermal Therapy

Combination cancer treatment has emerged as a critical approach to achieve remarkable anticancer effect. In this study, we prepared a theranostic nanoformulation that allows for photoacoustic imaging as well as combination gene and photothermal therapy. Gold nanorods (GNR) were coated with dipicolyl amine (DPA), which forms stable complexes with Zn2+ cations. The resulting nanoparticles, Zn(II)...

Conjugation of antibodies to gold nanorods through Fc portion: synthesis and molecular specific imaging.

Anisotropic gold nanorods provide a convenient combination of properties, such as tunability of plasmon resonances and strong extinction cross sections in the near-infrared to red spectral region. These properties have created significant interest in the development of antibody conjugation methods for synthesis of targeted nanorods for a number of biomedical applications, including molecular sp...

Evaluation of the use of gold nanoparticle as contrast agent in electrical impedance imaging

Introduction: Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a real time and minimal invasive imaging modality for detection of lesions in tissues even when their structures show no changes. Early detection of lesion with EIT depends on difference between electrical impedance of targeted tissue and its surroundings. Therefore, finding a contrast agent for EIT that increase this diffe...

Evaluation of multifunctional targeted gold nanoparticles on X-ray attenuation in nasopharyngeal cancer cells by X- ray imaging

Introduction: Head-and-neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide with the number of cases consistently increasing in developing countries. Successful development of effective, safe and cost effective nanoprobes for head-and-neck cancer targeting imaging is a big challenge. This study is aimed to develop cysteamine-folate conjugated gold nanoparticles (F-Cys-AuNPs) a...

Real-time, contrast enhanced photoacoustic imaging of cancer in a mouse window chamber.

A clinical ultrasound scanner and 14 MHz linear array collected real-time photoacoustic images (PAI) during an injection of gold nanorods (GNRs) near the region of a mature PC-3 prostate tumor in mice implanted with a skin flap window chamber. Three dimensional spectroscopic PAI (690-900 nm) was also performed to investigate absorption changes near the tumor and enhance specific detection of GN...
