Working towards detecting children in home videos

A method is proposed to take a step towards detecting children in home videos. This method builds on a method for detecting children in frontal images that uses the relation between the iris size and the head size. In the proposed method, a slightly adapted ellipse Hough transformations is used that favors circles. From this research can be concluded that the method is certainly a step in the right direction of children detection, however, a children detector for video shots based on the Viola Jones face detector for images will yield unpredicable results due to detection of non-faces, and too few detection on actual faces.
