T2 mapping in different cardiomyopathies: first clinical experience
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Structural myocardial changes accompany myocardial pathologies such as myocardial ischemia, myocarditis, hypertrophy (HCM) and myocardial remodeling. These changes affect T2 relaxation times which can noninvasively be detected by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). Since the interpretation of T2 weighted images remains a “risky business” due to subjectivity, the purpose of our study was to evaluate direct T2 value quantification by T2 mapping in different types of cardiomyopathies.

Free-breathing multi-slice myocardial T2 mapping using slice-selective T2 magnetization preparation
Background Quantitative myocardial T2 mapping allows non-invasive assessment of myocardial inflammation/edema [1]. Current implementations commonly use a T2-prepared (T2prep) SSFP sequence to acquire different T2 weighted images at different echo times to generate the T2 maps [2,3]. However, all current techniques are designed for single slice acquisition with long rest cycles (3-6 sec) after e...
متن کاملPerformance of T1 mapping vs. T2 mapping for assessing myocardial edema
Background Edema is an early feature of acute myocardial injury. Signal-intensity based analysis of T2-weighted images is established but known to have a high variability. T2 mapping and, more recently, T1 mapping have been proposed for assessing myocardial edema. We investigated the ability to accurately detect myocardial edema following defibrillation with T2 maps and two different T1 mapping...
متن کاملCardiac T2-mapping using a fast gradient echo spin echo sequence - first in vitro and in vivo experience
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was the evaluation of a fast Gradient Spin Echo Technique (GraSE) for cardiac T2-mapping, combining a robust estimation of T2 relaxation times with short acquisition times. The sequence was compared against two previously introduced T2-mapping techniques in a phantom and in vivo. METHODS Phantom experiments were performed at 1.5 T using a commercially availabl...
متن کاملT1 mapping in ischaemic heart disease.
A unique feature of cardiac magnetic resonance is its ability to characterize myocardium. Proton relaxation times, T1, T2, and T2* are a reflection of the composition of individual tissues, and change in the presence of disease. Research into T1 mapping has largely been focused in the study of cardiomyopathies, but T1 mapping also shows huge potential in the study of ischaemic heart disease. In...
متن کاملMyocardial T1 and T2 Mapping: Techniques and Clinical Applications
Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is widely used in various medical fields related to cardiovascular diseases. Rapid technological innovations in magnetic resonance imaging in recent times have resulted in the development of new techniques for CMR imaging. T1 and T2 image mapping sequences enable the direct quantification of T1, T2, and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) values of the m...
