The Value of Patient-administered Depression Rating Scale in Detecting Cognitive Deficits in Depressed Patients
نویسنده
چکیده
BACKGROUND The aims of this study was to clarify how accurate the depressed patients perceive their cognitive symptoms, and verify the appropriateness of the depressive rating scales in evaluating cognitive deficits in major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. METHODS The subjects consisted of 19 well-characterized medication-free patients with MDD and 19 healthy volunteers. The clinical and neuropsychological assessments, including Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D), Taiwanese Depression Questionnaire (TDQ), Finger Tapping Test, Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised, Stroop Color-Word Test, and Continuous Performance Test, were administered at the time of recruitment and repeated six months after treatment. RESULTS Depressed patients exhibited significant impairment in several neurocognitive domains. Neurocognitive impairment was correlated with both the affective and somatic factors, but not with the cognitive factors of TDQ. The similar results were shown after 6-month treatment. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that the MDD patients do not perceive their cognitive dysfunction correctly. The depression rating scales, especially the patient-administered scale, need to be validated for measuring neurocognitive deficits of MDD patients in the future, if cognitive component is suspected as one of the major domains of self-rating scale. Association Between Facial Affect Recognition and Maladaptive Schema in People With Depressive Symptoms
Objective: Depressed patients harbor maladaptive schemas that distort social reality and impaired facial expression recognition. Thus, this study aims at identifying specific associations among depressive symptoms, early maladaptive schemas, and patterns of for recognizing facially expressed emotions. Methods: 100 subjects diagnosed with depressive symptoms were selected from a larger statisti...
متن کاملAccuracy of a single question in screening for depression in a cohort of patients after stroke: comparative study.
The rehabilitation of depressed stroke patients is more difficult than the rehabilitation of patients who are not depressed: their recovery in hospital is slower and less successful, they are less likely to regain normal lifestyles after discharge, and they have poorer survival rates long term. Clinicians frequently fail to recognise depression in stroke patients. Deficits in cognition and comm...
متن کاملA comparison of clinician-rated neuropsychological and self-rated cognitive assessments in patients with asthma and rheumatologic disorders
Although data are mixed, asthma and rheumatologic conditions may be associated with cognitive impairment. Medications may play a role because corticosteroids are associated with memory impairment. Therefore, an easily administered assessment of cognition would be useful in these patients. We assessed relationships between self-rated and clinician-rated cognitive performance and mood in patients...

OBJECTIVES To examine the clinical correlates of catatonia in depression, to validate a scale for catatonia, and to assess the validity of the DSM-IV criteria of the catatonic features specifier for mood disorders. METHODS A series of 79 consecutive patients with depression and 41 patients with Parkinson's disease without depression were examined using the modified Rogers scale (MRS), the uni...
متن کاملTheory of mind disability in major depression with or without psychotic symptoms: a componential view.
Previous reports have conceptualized theory of mind (ToM) as comprising two components and questioned whether ToM deficits are associated with psychotic symptoms. We investigated 33 nonpsychotic depressed inpatients, 23 psychotic depressed inpatients, and 53 normal controls with the following measures: Eyes Task, Faux pas Task, Verbal Fluency Test (VFT), Digit Span Test (DST) and WAIS-IQ. The d...
