Treatment Adherence: Airway Clearance Therapy in Cystic Fibrosis
نویسنده
چکیده
In CF, as in other chronic, ultimately fatal disorders, therapeutic goals are most often compromised by poor treatment adherence. Both clinical experience and formal studies indicate that in CF, patients comply with about 50% of their prescribed treatments. However, the significance of that figure is distorted by the fact that compliance with individual components of the therapeutic regimen varies greatly. Evidence suggests that such variations occur in proportion to their perceived unpleasantness and the extent of infringement on daily activities.

Maintaining Respiratory Health in Cystic Fibrosis Patients
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system, however, it also affects a number of other organs and systems. More than 90% of mortality of CF patients is due to lung complications. Healthy lungs are important for a long life for people with CF, We will discuss two important topics for maintaining respiratory health. Chronic use of drug...

Background Pulmonary involvement is the main cause of mortality in cystic fibrosis (CF). Airway clearance techniques are non-pharmacological complement options for CF patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term outcome of airway cleaning treatment in patients with cystic fibrosis in a children's hospital. Materials and Methods This clinical trial study conducted on 40 CF pati...

OBJECTIVE Although cross-sectional studies have demonstrated poor adherence to airway clearance therapy (ACT) for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), no studies have identified longitudinal patterns of adherence. The objective was to characterize and identify predictors of ACT adherence trajectories for individuals with CF. METHODS Secondary data analyses were conducted for a randomized clini...

The rationale for airway clearance therapy and basic principles of its application are identical for children and adults, but there are important differences in physiology (regarding airway mucus characteristics and airway mechanics) and pathological processes in children, as well as other considerations unique to the pediatric population. The major obstacle in reviewing the evidence for effica...
متن کاملAirway clearance in cystic fibrosis: is there a better way?
The pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease is initiated by dysfunction of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator protein, leading to dysregulation of the salt and water content of the airway surface liquid. Abnormal airway surface liquid compromises mucociliary clearance and airway defenses against infection. An exaggerated inflammatory response leads to an influx of large num...
