چکیده

OVEL METHODS for routine deterniiiiatiou of calcium in serum have widely replaced cumbersome “classic” methods. Further evaluation of the applicatioii of such methods to urine is needed. In our laboratory, urinary calcium has been measured by the accurate, but tedious, ClarkCollip procedure of precipitating calcium as the oxalate and titrating the oxalate with standardized peimangaiiate. Over the past 12 years, several other methods have been tried and found unsatisfactory for various reasons. This report compares results obtained by three adequate, newer procedures with those found by the Clark-Collip procedure. In each case, the urine specimens have a calcium content covermg the generally encountered pathologic range.

Automated fluorometric method for the determination of serum calcium.

A. FULLY automated nlethod for the (leterinination of serum calcium which is accurate, reproducible, and relatively simple seemed desirable. The additioll of the fluorometer (1) to the modular system of the AutoAnalyzer* suggested the search for a fluorometric calcium procedure. Accordingly, several substances known to complex with calcium were obtained and their fluorescent emission spectra in...

Difficulties in the use of ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (E.D.T.A) in determining calcium in serum.

The usual methods for the determination of calcium in serum are lengthy procedures. Calcium may be precipitated as oxalate and the oxalate radical estimated by titration with potassium permanganate (Clark and Collip, 1925). The calcium oxalate may be converted to calcium carbonate which is estimated by titration with acid (Trevan and Bainbridge, 1926). Calcium may also be precipitated as calciu...

Estimation of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in diet and stool.

A procedure that is simple and convenient for general use for the estimation of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in diet and stool is described. It includes a HNO3-HCIO4 digestion in a micro-Kjeldahl flask. Calcium subsequently may be estimated by atomic absorption spectrophotometry or by the Clark-Collip procedure, magnesium by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and phosphorus by the metho...

A simple apparatus for the estimation of the diffusible fraction of calcium in serum.

This is a modification of the method of Updegraff, Greenberg, and Clark (1926) which depends upon the diffusion under reduced pressure of calcium ions in serum through a collodion sac into water. The calcium in the diffusate is estimated by the method of Clark and Collip (1925) and a correction applied for the diffusible ions which remain in the sac on the establishment of equilibrium. X-ray spectroscopy in the clinical laboratory. I. Calcium and potassium.

I N i earlier publication it was pointed out that x-ray spectroscopy was, potentially, a practical tool for the routine analysis of the elements in biologic systems (1), and was particularly applicable to the problems of the clinical laboratory (2). This is the first of a series of studies designed to evaluate this method of analysis for the routine laboratory of clinical chemistry. Specificall...
