A Practical Guide to Geostatistical Mapping
نویسنده
چکیده
Geostatistical mapping can be defined as analytical production of maps by using field observations, auxiliary information and a computer program that calculates values at locations of interest. Today, increasingly the heart of a mapping project is, in fact, the computer program that implements some (geo)statistical algorithm to a given point data set. Purpose of this guide is to assist you in producing quality maps by using fully-operational tools, without a need for serious additional investments. It will first introduce you the to the basic principles of geostatistical mapping and regression-kriging, as the key prediction technique, then it will guide you through four software packages: ILWIS GIS, R+gstat, SAGA GIS and Google Earth, which will be used to prepare the data, run analysis and make final layouts. These materials have been used for the five-days advanced training course “Hands-on-geostatistics: merging GIS and spatial statistics”, that is regularly organized by the author and collaborators. Visit the course website to obtain a copy of the datasets used in this exercise. Application of geostatistical methods for mapping groundwater phosphate construction in Eyvan plain, Ilam Province, Iran
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spatial changes of groundwater phosphate concentrations using geostatistical methods based on data from 10 groundwater wells. One of the conventional tools in decision making on the groundwater management is geostatistical method. To evaluate the spatial changes of phosphate concentrations in groundwater, the universal kriging method with cross-vali...
متن کاملAssessment of geostatistical and interpolation methods for mapping forest dieback intensity in Zagros forests
During recent years, oak decline has been widely spread across Brant’s oak (Quercus Brantii Lindl.) stands in the Zagros Mountains, Western Iran, which caused large-area forest dieback in several sites. Mapping the intensity and spatial distribution of forest dieback is essential for developing management and control strategies. This study evaluated a range of geostatistical and interpolation m...
متن کاملMapping spatial variability of soil salinity in a coastal area located in an arid environment using geostatistical and correlation methods based on the satellite data
Saline lakes can increase the soil and water salinity of the coastal areas. The main aim of this study is to distinguish the characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, analyze the statistical relationship between soil EC and characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, and to map soil salinity east of the Maharloo Lake. The correlation between field measurements ...
متن کاملMapping Spatial Variability of Soil Salinity Using Remote Sensing Data and Geostatistical Analysis: A Case of Shadegan, Khuzestan
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Soil salinity is one of the most important desertification parameters in many parts of the world. Thus, preparing soil salinity maps in macro scales is necessary. Water and soil salinity as one of the contributing parameters in desertification, cause soil and vegetation degradation. Soil salinization represents many negative effects on the earth systems such ...
متن کاملCartography for air quality monitoring : the geostatistical approach
Being able to provide a quick and accurate pollutant maps from readings at isolated measurement stations is becoming more important today in light of the European norms on air quality and the public’s demand to be informed. Commonly used algorithms for cartography are quick but their accuracy remains to be determined. Firstly, the choice of method is arbitrary and based on user's subjective per...
