Supporting Reliable Concast with ATM Networks

چکیده
We explore the issues concerning the support of reliable concurrent multicast in ATM networks. We provide motivation for using tree-based schemes versus receiver-initiated schemes, and compare variations on the fundamental tree-based scheme, showing the properties needed for an efficient reliable concast protocol for ATM. A new tree structure, called a feedback tree, is introduced for use in packet deletion flow control. Feedback trees are shown to have a lower average path length, and therefore require less memory and have lower flow control latencies than traditional ack trees. We consider proposals for multipoint-to-multipoint routing and how these protocols effect the efficiency of the reliable concast protocols.

Multicast TCP via concast merged acknowledgments
One of the challenges in reliable multicast is approximating or replicating TCP’s congestion control algorithm. This has led to various proposals to adapt TCP itself for use over multicast. The drawback of these multicast TCP services is that they place significant processing load on the sender and they fail to deal with the problem of ACK implosion. This paper shows how concast, a network-laye...
متن کاملPerformance Measures of Wireless Protocols for Atm Networks
The concept of wireless ATM is now being actively considered as a potential framework for nextgeneration wireless communication networks capable of supporting integrated multimedia services with different QoS requirements. Several key subsystem design issues for wired ATM and wireless networks needs to be readdressed in the scope of the wireless ATM, which has the capability to extend the stati...

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...
متن کاملA Measurement-Based CAC Strategy for ATM Networks
In ATM networks, Connection Admission Control (CAC) has been recognized as one of the most important means to provide satisfactory quality of service (QoS) and protect the network from congestion, especially for supporting real-time services such as voice and video. An efficient CAC strategy, which can both guarantee the QoS of admitted connections and achieve good resource utilization, then be...

A personal communications services (PCS) system that provides access to, and interworks with, the ATM network will have the capability to support future multimedia services. PCS access to fixed ATM networks is one of the wireless access scenarios being considered by the ATM Forum for standardization. This paper provides a system level description of a PCS-to-ATM interworking scenario. It propos...
