Mosquitoes and Malaria

چکیده
This is an admirable little book which should be in the hands of every medical man in India. It gives in small space a very complete account of our knowledge of the subject of the relations of mosquitoes to malaria, at the present day, and also a sketch of the natural history of some mosquitoes. It begins by giving a short account of the malaria parasite, from its discovery by Laveran. Chapter II is devoted to the discoveries of M?ijor R. Ross, and an excellent r^sumd of his reports is given, as well as, in another chapter, the confirmation of his discoveries by Dr. C. W. Daniels. The fifth chapter is devoted to the most recent works of the Italian observers and others. The next chapter gives a clear and interesting account of the natural history of some mosquitoes, especially of the culex and anopheles genera. A study of this chapter with the plates given, at the end of the book will enable anyone with but little trouble to identify the ordinary culex

Fauna and some biologic charactristics of Anopheles mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in malaria high risk regions: Hormozgan Province, 2007-2008
Introduction: Anopheles mosquitoes are the sole biologic vectors of mlaria. Up to now, more than 480 species of Anopheles have been identified. The present study was achieved to identify the Anopheles mosquitoes of malaria high risk foci in Hormozgan province (Bashagard and Syahoo districts) and detect their main biologic charactristics in 2007-2008. Methods: Larvae, pupae and adult mosquit...
متن کاملA Narrative Review of the Control of Mosquitoes by Larvivorous Fish in Iran and the World
Background and purpose: Mosquitoes are responsible for the transmission of many pathogens such as malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, and so on. The control of mosquitoes using chemical insecticides is not always a sensible approach, so, alternative biological control methods, especially the use of larvivorous fishes, can play a significant role in controlling of mosquito larvae. Materials an...
متن کاملمقایسه تاثیر آنتیبادیهای ضد میان روده پشه آنوفل استفنسی بر روی چرخه اسپروگونی انگل پلاسمودیوم برگئی در دو سویه از آنوفل استفنسی
Background & Aims: Malaria parasites attach to molecules on midgut surface of Anopheles mosquitoes to continue their life cycle. Here we try to evaluate the effect of anti-Anopheles midgut antibodies on coating these molecules and consequently blocking the transmission cycle of Plasmodium berghei inside their vectors. Materials & Methods: Balb/c mice were immunized with homogenized and degly...
متن کاملInhibition of Malaria Infection in Transgenic Anopheline Mosquitoes Lacking Salivary Gland Cells
Malaria is an important global public health challenge, and is transmitted by anopheline mosquitoes during blood feeding. Mosquito vector control is one of the most effective methods to control malaria, and population replacement with genetically engineered mosquitoes to block its transmission is expected to become a new vector control strategy. The salivary glands are an effective target tissu...
متن کاملTransgenic malaria-resistant mosquitoes have a fitness advantage when feeding on Plasmodium-infected blood.
The introduction of genes that impair Plasmodium development into mosquito populations is a strategy being considered for malaria control. The effect of the transgene on mosquito fitness is a crucial parameter influencing the success of this approach. We have previously shown that anopheline mosquitoes expressing the SM1 peptide in the midgut lumen are impaired for transmission of Plasmodium be...
متن کاملMalaria drug - resistance in Iran
Introduction: Malaria is a public health problem for approximately 2.4 billion people, 40% of the world’s population, particularly in the tropical and subtropical countries. Countries in Asia, and Latin America, the islands of the South, West, and central pacific ocean are all affected. Drug resistance is the greatest challenge in combating against malaria. Drug resistance in malaria is now w...
