چکیده

Plasma renin activity and renin substrate levels were measured during the development of cellophane perinephritis hypertension induced by either a bilateral renal wrap procedure or a wrap-nephrectomy procedure in 28 rabbits. Unoperated and unilaterally nephrectomized controls were also studied. Plasma renin concentration was derived from plasma renin activity and plasma renin substrate levels using a measured K^ of 2.3 X K H M . All surgical operations were followed by a transient increase in plasma renin substrate levels and a fall in plasma renin concentration. Unilateral nephrectomy in normotensive controls suppressed plasma renin activity and concentration for a 20-day period. Similar suppression occurred during the onset of hypertension in rabbits subjected to the wrap-nephrectomy procedure. Decapsulation accompanied by a fall in blood pressure again suppressed plasma renin activity and concentration. With bilateral wrapping, hypertension developed gradually without a change in renin levels. Decreased renin secretion during the evolution of perinephritis hypertension probably reflects a decreased renal excretory capacity for salt and water that overrides the renin-releasing effect of renal compression.

Effects of two forms of hypertension on atherosclerosis in the hyperlipidemic baboon.

We examined the relationship of hypertension and plasma renin activity to atherogenesis in 48 moderately hyperlipidemic (total serum cholesterol was about 200 mg/dl) baboons (Papio sp.). We used renal artery stenosis (two-kidney, one clip model) to produce hypertension associated with elevated plasma renin activity, and used cellophane wrapping of both kidneys (bilateral perinephritis model) to...

Role of angiotensin II in renal wrap hypertension.

The role of angiotensin II in the development of renal wrap hypertension was studied in rabbits that underwent either bilateral renal cellophane wrap or sham operation. In half the rabbits, angiotensin II production was blocked by continuous administration of enalapril. Four weeks after renal wrapping, mean arterial pressure had risen by 48 +/- 5 mm Hg in untreated rabbits, but by only 25 +/- 4...

Effects of indomethacin in rabbit renovascular hypertension.

1. Indomethacin inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and interferes with renin release; these effects were studied in rabbit renovascular hypertension. 2. Ten intravenous injections (3 mg day-1 kg-1 after two initial doses of 9 mg/kg) of indomethacin were given daily to ten normal rabbits, ten rabbits with two-kidney Goldblatt hypertension (2KH), tension (1KH). Twelve appropriate control rabbits re...

The effect of aspirin therapy on the plasma renin activity in myocardial infarction

In this study, the changes of renin system activity and the effects of aspirin therapy on the plasma renin activity ( PRA) in myocardial infarction were investigated. Fifty nine patients with myocardial infarction were selected. By suppressed in the former group which was statistically significant ( p<0.01).
