Calculating Average Collocation Frequency with the Acftool
نویسندگان
چکیده
In order to further research on the impact of collocations on readability, we have developed a software tool called ACFCalc. This tool calculates the Average Collocation Frequency for a sample text, based upon collocation frequency data from the sample text and from a reference corpus. The present paper describes the features of the ACFCalc application and details its requirements, in terms of Collocation Frequency Lists (CFLs).

A numerical approach to solve eighth order boundary value problems by Haar wavelet collocation method
In this paper a robust and accurate algorithm based on Haar wavelet collocation method (HWCM) is proposed for solving eighth order boundary value problems. We used the Haar direct method for calculating multiple integrals of Haar functions. To illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the concerned method, few examples are considered which arise in the mathematical modeling of fluid dynamics an...
متن کاملCollocation frequency as a readability factor
A readability measure that can reliably estimate the difficulty level of sample texts has great potential in ESL teaching. We argue for the inclusion of collocation frequency as a generic factor in estimates of ESL text readability, since the readability of any text will be affected adversely by the presence of collocations. Collocational word combinations are seldom amenable to comprehension s...
متن کاملAverage Collocation Frequency as an Indicator of Semantic Complexity
The present paper elaborates the nature of the Average Collocation Frequency and proposes specific roles for this measure. In addition to its potential as a factor in gauging readability, we propose that the ACF affords a practical measure for estimating the language complexity of texts for use in English language teaching. Particularly, in the context of English as a Second Language, collocati...
متن کاملSimilarity Based Chinese Synonym Collocation Extraction
Collocation extraction systems based on pure statistical methods suffer from two major problems. The first problem is their relatively low precision and recall rates. The second problem is their difficulty in dealing with sparse collocations. In order to improve performance, both statistical and lexicographic approaches should be considered. This paper presents a new method to extract synonymou...
متن کاملComputation of frequency responses for linear time-invariant PDEs on a compact interval
We develop mathematical framework and computational tools for calculating frequency responses of linear time-invariant PDEs in which an independent spatial variable belongs to a compact interval. In conventional studies this computation is done numerically using spatial discretization of differential operators in the evolution equation. In this paper, we introduce an alternative method that avo...
