چکیده

layer signalling protocol, SIP offers mobility management capability. However SIP Terminal Mobility suffers from considerable handoff latency which is unsuitable for real time applications and frequent local movements (intra domain handoffs). Hierarchical Mobile SIP (HMSIP) was then proposed as a solution to reduce the SIP handoff delay and to provide a complete micro-mobility solution for SIP environments. Unfortunately HMSIP handoff delays remain too high for real time multimedia applications which require handoff delay between 50ms and 200ms to guarantee the Quality of Service. In this paper we propose to reinforce the HMSIP by integrating the Predictive Address Reservation (PAR) mechanism to get better handoff performance. A simple integration of PAR-SIP with HMSIP allows not only reducing handoff delay but also signaling overhead.

Efficient hierarchical SIP mobility management for WiMAX networks

By adopting Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) in WiMAX networks, when the mobile node (MN) moves to a foreign network, the MN sends a re-INVITE message to the corresponding node (CN) to re-establish the connection. This re-connection time is the most costly factor for a handoff. To effectively reduce the re-connection latency, a hierarchical SIP (HSIP) mobility management incorporated with MAC ...

An efficient micro-mobility solution for SIP networks

SIP is evolving as the dominant protocol for multimedia call control in IP networks and is expected to be widely deployed in the near future. Using SIP for supporting mobility in SIPbased networks appears as a very attractive alternative to Mobile IP, taking advantage of existing SIP infrastructure and signaling, while avoiding duplication of functionality. However, existing proposals for suppo...

Vertical Handoff Characterization for SIP and mSCTP Based UMTS-WLAN Integration Solutions

It is desirable to integrate 3G Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) and 802.11 wireless local area networks, especially at hot-spot locations such as hotels and airports. The efficiency of wireless data services can be maximized if the integration provides users with seamless roaming across the two types of networks. Seamless handoff between these two networks to maintain session c...

Mobility Protocols for Handoff Management in Heterogeneous Networks

Future generation networks are expected to be a combination of several types of access technologies that vary in their characteristics. Efficient handoff management techniques are required to enable end-users to seamlessly access these networks as they roam across different geographic locations. We describe recent protocols (application, transport, and network) such as Mobile IP, Session Initia...
