Increased excretion of fecal fat in hyperlipidemic patients.

چکیده
Total fat balance was studied in 13 healthy controls and 14 patients with primry hyperlipidemia by estimating dietary and fecal fat. Although no difference in fat intake was noted between hyperlipidemics and controls, fecal fat excretion in hyperlipidemics increased significantly as compared with that in controls. The increase in fat excretion was greater in patients with type IIa hyperlipidemia (hypercholesterolemia) than in those with types IIb and IV hyperlipidemia (endogenous hyperlipidemia).

Effects of a glucoside-hydrolase inhibitor (Bay g 5421) on serum lipids, lipoproteins and bile acids, fecal fat and bacterial flora, and intestinal gas production in hyperlipidemic patients.
Significant decrease in serum very low density lipoproteins and low density lipoproteins was observed after Bay g 5421 trial (300 mg/day for 6 weeks) in 14 hyperlipidemic patients. Although no significant changes were demonstrated in serum fractions of bile acids, the alteration in the patterns of fecal bacterial flora including the increase in obligate anaerobes was observed after the trial an...
متن کاملStimulation of fecal fat excretion and the disposal of protoporphyrin in a murine model for erythropoietic protoporphyria.
Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is characterized by toxic accumulation of the hydrophobic compound protoporphyrin (PP). Ferrochelatase-deficient (fch/fch) mice are an animal model for human EPP. Recently, we have demonstrated that the accumulation of another hydrophobic compound, unconjugated bilirubin, could effectively be treated by stimulation of fecal fat excretion. We investigated whet...
متن کاملEffect of Cholestyramine on the Fecal Excretion
A B S T R A C T The effect of cholestyramine on the fecal excretion of bile acids and neutral sterols was measured in a hypercholesterolemic patient on a low fat, high polyunsaturated fatty acid-containing diet after the intravenous injection of cholesterol4-14C. A significant (16%) lowering of serum cholesterol concentration was accompanied by a 3.2-fold increase in fecal bile acid excretion b...
متن کاملPancreatic exocrine dysfunction in maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 3.
OBJECTIVE Exocrine pancreas dysfunction is seen in 10-30% of patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes. We have recently identified a syndrome of diabetes and exocrine pancreas dysfunction attributable to mutations in the carboxyl ester lipase (CEL) gene. We wanted to investigate the prevalence of pancreatic exocrine dysfunction in patients with maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 3 (MODY3). ...
متن کاملEfficacy of lower than standard doses of pancreatic enzyme supplementation therapy during acid inhibition in patients with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.
GOAL To compare, during strong acid inhibition with omeprazole, the effect of 2 different doses of an enteric-coated pancreatic enzyme preparation on fecal fat excretion and abdominal symptoms in patients with exocrine insufficiency due to chronic pancreatitis (CP). BACKGROUND Treatment with pancreatic enzymes reduces fecal fat excretion in patients with CP but is rather unsuccessful due to i...
