چکیده

INTRODUCTION Neonatal imaging is of growing importance as the effects of premature birth are becoming better controlled and babies are surviving from earlier gestational ages. Prematurity can often lead to consequences for the CNS and other parts of the body and MR is highly relevant for imaging this population as it is non-invasive and so allows follow up scanning. There have been two main approaches to imaging neonates who require monitoring and preservation of temperature away from the care unit: a) a dedicated MR system on the intensive care unit where care and support can be easily provided. b) a neonatal incubator with full support equipment to transport the baby to a central hospital based MR system. A number of prototype incubators and a commercial system have previously been reported but all these systems have one or more disadvantages in terms of cost, complexity and patient visibility during imaging. We report here recent progress on developing a simple neonatal transport MR and CT compatible incubator and monitoring system which aims to overcome some of these limitations.

First Experience with Neonatal Examinations with the Use of MR-Compatible Incubator

BACKGROUND Since 2003, very few publications have described brain examinations using neonatal MR-compatible incubator (INC). The authors present their first experience in these examinations, not limited to brain scans, with the use of an incubator equipped not only with head coil, but also with a coil designed for examinations of the spinal canal and spinal cord as well as the whole body, at th...

Ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging of the neonate in a magnetic resonance-compatible incubator with a built-in coil.

BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the neonate is important clinically, because this group of patients often has complex and multiple problems due to prematurity and developmental abnormalities. MR imaging usually involves moving neonates away from their controlled environment to the scanner. OBJECTIVE In this study we present the results of our initial experience with an MR-compat...

Magnetic resonance imaging of neonates in the magnetic resonance compatible incubator

INTRODUCTION The authors present the first experience in neonatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations using an MR compatible incubator (INC) at the Institute of Mother and Child. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty-nine examinations of 47 newborns (20 girls, 27 boys) were performed using the GE Signa HDxt 1.5T system and INC Nomag IC 1.5. Demographic data, anesthetic methods and MRI findings...

A Neonatal Bimodal MR-CT Head Template

Neonatal MR templates are appropriate for brain structural analysis and spatial normalization. However, they do not provide the essential accurate details of cranial bones and fontanels-sutures. Distinctly, CT images provide the best contrast for bone definition and fontanels-sutures. In this paper, we present, for the first time, an approach to create a fully registered bimodal MR-CT head temp...

Noise at the neonatal intensive care unit and inside the incubator.

The goal was to identify sound pressure level (SPL) at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and inside the incubator of a teaching hospital of a public university from São Paulo - SP, Brazil. SPL inside the NICU and the incubator were measured using four dosimeters in January/2010. SPL at the NICU varied from 52.6 dBA to 80.4 dBA and inside the incubator, from 45.4 dBA to 79.1 dBA. SPL both ...
