Metatarsat Osteotomy for the Correction of Metatarsus Adductus

چکیده
The pediatric/adolescent patient with the deformity metatarsus adductus, represents an entirely different set of circumstances from a surgical standpoint than does the adult patient. ln dealing with a pediatric deformity there exists many more surgical variables. An individual with metatarsus adductus as a primary deformity will have greater expectations from treatment than will the patient that presents with residual metatarsus adductus from a previously treated club foot. Both the presence of open epiphyses and extrinsic forces that exist can significantly alter the structure of the foot over time. Finally, of great importance to the treatment is the parents' expectations and depending on the age of the patient, the patient's expectations.

FOREFOOT ADDUCTION IN CHILDREN. Management and Treatment.
Forefoot adduction is a common condition between metatarsus adductus, Z-shaped foot and residual clubfoot. This deformity is located in a pure transverse plane at Lisfranc’s joint. Isolated metatarsus adductus is corrected spontaneously for the majority of newborns. In rare uncorrected cases, it could result in Z-shaped foot with a functional hindfoot valgus to equilibrate the resistant metatar...
متن کاملBall and socket ankle joint in metatarsus adductus varus. (S-shaped or serpentine foot).
Metatarsus adductus varus is characterised by fixed adduction and supination of the forefoot and valgus deformity of the heel. On weight-bearing this valgus becomes more pronounced, thus enabling the forefoot to pronate and increase its area of contact with the ground (Figs. 1 and 2). This rare and unyielding deformity of the forefoot and hindfoot must be clearly distinguished from the common m...

I read with interest the article ‘‘Combined double tarsal wedge osteotomy and transcuneiform osteotomy for correction of resistant club foot deformity (the bean-shaped foot) by Elgeidi and Abulsaad [1]. I would, however, like to draw attention to some errors in their description of the double osteotomy technique. In their article the authors mention that the procedure described by Jawish [2] in...
متن کاملCombined cuboid/cuneiform osteotomy for correction of residual adductus deformity in idiopathic and secondary club feet.
We used a combined cuboid/cuneiform osteotomy to treat residual adductus deformity in idiopathic and secondary club feet. The mean follow-up for 27 feet (22 idiopathic, four arthrogrypotic and one related to amniotic band syndrome) was 5.0 years (2.0 to 9.8). All healed uneventfully except for one early wound infection. No further surgery was required in the 22 idiopathic club feet but four of ...

This pictorial review focuses on basic procedures performed within the field of podiatric surgery, specifically for elective procedures of the lesser forefoot including the correction of hammertoes and lesser metatarsal deformities. Our goal is to demonstrate objective radiographic parameters that surgeons utilize to initially define the deformity, lead to procedure selection and judge post-ope...
