Fast convergence in evolutionary equilibrium selection

چکیده
Stochastic best response models provide sharp predictions about equilibrium selection when the noise level is arbitrarily small. The difficulty is that, when the noise is extremely small, it can take an extremely long time for a large population to reach the stochastically stable equilibrium. An important exception arises when players interact locally in small close-knit groups; in this case convergence can be rapid for small noise and an arbitrarily large population. We show that a similar result holds when the population is fully mixed and there is no local interaction. Moreover, the expected waiting times are comparable to those in local interaction models. A Fast and Self-Repairing Genetic Programming Designer for Logic Circuits
Usually, important parameters in the design and implementation of combinational logic circuits are the number of gates, transistors, and the levels used in the design of the circuit. In this regard, various evolutionary paradigms with different competency have recently been introduced. However, while being advantageous, evolutionary paradigms also have some limitations including: a) lack of con...
متن کاملCharacter convergence under competition for nutritionally essential resources.
Resource competition is thought to drive divergence in resource use traits (character displacement) by generating selection favoring individuals able to use resources unavailable to others. However, this picture assumes nutritionally substitutable resources (e.g., different prey species). When species compete for nutritionally essential resources (e.g., different nutrients), theory predicts tha...
متن کاملA Central Limit Theorem for Punctuated Equilibrium
Current evolutionary biology models usually assume that a phenotype undergoes gradual change. This is in stark contrast to biological intuition which indicates that change can also be punctuated — the phenotype can jump. Such a jump can especially occur at speciation, i.e. dramatic change occurs that drives the species apart. Here we derive a central limit theorem for punctuated equilibrium. We...
متن کاملMultilocus selection in subdivided populations I. Convergence properties for weak or strong migration.
The dynamics and equilibrium structure of a deterministic population-genetic model of migration and selection acting on multiple multiallelic loci is studied. A large population of diploid individuals is distributed over finitely many demes connected by migration. Generations are discrete and nonoverlapping, migration is irreducible and aperiodic, all pairwise recombination rates are positive, ...
متن کاملEvolutionary dynamics with large aggregate shocks
This paper examines a class of evolutionary models in which large shocks cause frequent movement between short-term "stable" equilibria. Mutations are rare in our model, but their effects are magnified by a "spread process" which causes a finite proportion of the population to initially adopt the entering strategy before the short-term selection dynamics takes effect. We examine the long run in...
