چکیده

This paper deals with the impact of traffic handling mechanisms on capacity for different network architectures. Three traffic handling models are considered: per-flow, class-based and best-effort (BE). These models can be used to meet service guarantees, the major differences being in their complexity of implementations and in the quantity of network resources that must be provided. In this study, the performance is fixed and the required capacity determined for various combinations of traffic handling architectures for edge-core networks. This study provides a comparison of different QoS architectures. One key result of this work is that on the basis of capacity requirements, there is no significant difference between semi-aggregate traffic handling and per-flow traffic handling. However, best-effort handling requires significantly more capacity as compared to the other methods. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Traffic handling and network capacity in multi-service networks

This paper describes the impact of traffic handling mechanisms on network capacity for support of Quality of Service (QoS) in multiservice networks. The choice of which traffic handling strategy to employ requires a methodology that can be used to capture the trade-off between the different schemes and this is the focus of this paper. One key result of this work is that on the basis of capacity...

Delay Optimization and Cross-Layer Design in Wireless Multi-Hop Networks with Network Coding and Successive Interference Cancellation

Network coding (NC) and multi-packet reception (MPR) with successive interference cancellation (SIC) have been shown to improve the performance of multi-hop wireless networks (MWNs). However, previous work emphasized maximization of network throughput without considering quality of service (QoS) requirements, which may lead to high packet delays in the network. The objective of this work is min...

Congestion Control Approaches Applied to Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are a specific category of wireless ad-hoc networks where their performance is highly affected by application, life time, storage capacity, processing power, topology changes, the communication medium and bandwidth. These limitations necessitate an effective data transport control in WSNs considering quality of service, energy efficiency, and congestion control. ...

Comparison of Static & Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Schemes for Multiple QOS Classes in ATM Networks1

In ATM networks, the bandwidth of virtual paths (VPs) are allocated individually for the support of different traffic classes with different quality of service (QOS) requirements within a VP. A VP combination scheme defined in [8] is a way to assign traffic classes to different VPs for satisfying all the QOS requirements. It is also referred to as static bandwidth allocation schemes which may n...

A Multi-Wireless Bandwidth Aggregation Mechanism in SDN Networks

Nowadays, the popularity of smart mobile devices drives the mobile data traffic into a faster growth. For handling the extreme growth of mobile data traffic, the mobile telecommunication operator tries to upgrade the core network equipment to expand the data capacity of services, but compare with the exponentially growing mobile data traffic, the effect is limited. In addition, most of the curr...
