چکیده

The ordered color filter arrays (CFA) used in single-sensor, color digital still cameras introduce distracting color artifacts. These artifacts are due to the phase-shifted, aliased signals introduced by the sparse sampling by the CFAs. This work reports the results of an investigation on the possibility of using random patterns as a CFA for single-sensor, digital still cameras. From a single blue noise mask pattern, three mutually exclusive, random CFAs are constructed representing the red, green, and blue color filters. An edge adaptive method, consisting of missing-pixel edge detection and boundary-sensitive interpolation is employed to reconstruct the entire image. Experiments have shown that the random CFA alleviates the problem of the low-frequency color banding associated with ordered arrays. This method also has the advantage of better preserving color-free, sharp neutral edges and results in less deviation-fromneutral on high-frequency, monochrome information. C © 1999 Academic Press

Adaptive color halftoning for minimum perceived error using the blue noise mask

Color haiftoning using a conventional screen requires careful selection of screen angles to avoid Moire patterns. An obvious advantage of halftoning using a Blue Noise Mask (BNM) ' is that there are no conventional screen angle or Moire patterns produced. However, a simple strategy of employing the same BNM on all color planes is unacceptable in case where a small registration error can cause o...

Color filter array design using random patterns with blue noise chromatic spectra

We propose two new types of random patterns with R, G, B colors, which allow to design color filter arrays (CFAs) with good spectral properties. Indeed, the chrominance channels have blue noise characteristics, a property which maximizes the robustness of the acquisition system to aliasing. With these new CFAs, the demosaicking artifacts appear as incoherent noise, which is less visually distur...

Recently, significant interest has been attracted by the potential use of aluminum nanostructures as plasmonic color filters to be great alternatives to the commercial color filters based on dye films or pigments. These color filters offer potential applications in LCDs, LEDs, color printing, CMOS image sensors, and multispectral imaging. However, engineering the optical characteristics of thes...

Noise Model Analysis on Image Sensor Arrays

This paper presents a new noise model and its application to Bayer color filter array (CFA). We investigate the effect of various noise models. In addition, we study three possible Bayer patterns. For example, current Bayer CFA utilizes RGGB pattern. However, one may consider other color combinations such as RRGB or RGBB patterns. To prove RGGB pattern’s superiority, we investigate each pattern...

In a blue noise halftoning method, the problems related to Moiré patterns in conventional screen designs are replaced by color image quality issues related to the overlay of blue noise patterns. A number of different schemes have been propose...
