The collapse of a mixed patch in stratified fluid

چکیده
Lock-release laboratory experiments are performed to examine the collapse of a localized mixed patch of fluid in a uniformly stratified ambient with constant buoyancy frequency, N. The intrusion speed is approximately 0.13NH , in which H is the depth of the mixed patch. This is consistent with the speed of intrusions released from a full-depth lock where H =H is the depth of the ambient. The vertically propagating waves have frequency set by N 0.7N and the horizontal wavelength, x, is set by H x 1.5H . The amplitude is found to scale as the depth of the mixed region cubed at small H , and saturates at large H 10 cm due to nonlinear effects. © 2007 American Institute of Physics. The axisymmetric collapse of a mixed patch and internal wave generation in uniformly stratified rotating fluid
We present an experimental and numerical investigation of the effect of Coriolis forces on the axisymmetric collapse of a uniform mixed region in uniformly stratified fluid. Laboratory experiments were performed on a rotating table in which a mixed patch contained initially in a hollow cylinder was released and so excited internal waves whose properties were analyzed using synthetic schlieren. ...
متن کاملSimulation of entrainment near a density stratified layer: Laboratory experiment and LIDAR observation
In this paper a simple qualitative model of the growth of a mixed layer adjacent to a uniform layer with a stably stratified layer is presented. The depth variations of mixed layer can be estimated from direct measurements. The Entrainment of a stably stratified layer into a turbulent mixed layer in a confined region was studied in laboratory for different Richardson numbers. The internal waves...
متن کاملAxisymmetric intrusions in two-layer and uniformly stratified environments with and without rotation
Lock-release laboratory experiments have been performed to examine the collapse of a localized cylindrical mixed patch of fluid in both two-layer and uniformly stratified ambients. The experiments were performed with and without rotation. Unlike bottom propagating gravity currents, non-rotating intrusions typically propagated many lock radii at constant speed, sometimes stopping abruptly due to...

The aim of this study is investigates the effects of different patches shrubs on the soil surface indicators in Gub Gugeh rangelands, in Golestan Province. The sampling was taken along transects of 50 meters, which are 10 meters away from each other. Via LFA models, three factors of stability, infiltration and nutrient cycling using 11 indicators of surface soil in patch and inter-patch were me...
