چکیده

We adopt up-to-date Li yields from asymptotic giant branch stars in order to study the temporal evolution of Li in the solar neighbourhood in the context of a revised version of the two-infall model for the chemical evolution of our galaxy. We consider several lithium stellar sources besides the asymptotic giant branch stars such as Type II supernovae, novae, low-mass giants as well as Galactic cosmic rays and low-mass X-ray binaries. We conclude that asymptotic giant branch stars cannot be considered as important Li producers as believed in so far and that the contribution of low-mass giants and novae is necessary to reproduce the steep rise of the Li abundance in disk stars as well as the meteoritic Li abundance. Lithium production in low-mass X-ray binaries hardly affects the temporal evolution of Li in the solar neighbourhood.

Evolution of Lithium in the Milky Way

We adopt up-to-date Li yields from asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in order to study the temporal evolution of this element in the solar neighbourhood. Several lithium stellar sources are considered besides the AGBs: Type II supernovae (SNe), novae, low-mass giants. Galactic cosmic ray (GCR) nucleosynthesis is taken into account as well. We conclude that AGB stars do not substantially contr...

Yields from Low Metallicity, Intermediate Mass Agb Stars: Their Role for the Cno and Lithium Abundances in Globular Cluster Stars

We present the results of extensive computation of the Thermal Pulse phase AGB evolution of stars of metallicities in mass fraction 2 10 ?4 Z 0:01, for those masses in the range 2:5 M=M 6, which suuer the Hot Bottom Burning (HBB) phase. The evolution is fully computed, by assuming a mass loss rate consistent with the observations of the Magellanic Clouds lithium rich stars, and modelling convec...

Pulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I

We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...

Carbon Stars and Nucleosynthesis in Galaxies

The role of carbon stars in the build-up of chemical elements in galaxies is discussed on the basis of stellar evolution calculations and estimated stellar yields, abundance analyses of AGB stars, galactic-evolution models and abundance trends among solar-type disk stars. We conclude that the AGB stars in general, and carbon stars in particular, probably are main contributors of s-elements, tha...

Lithium and mass loss in massive AGB stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud

The aim of this work is to use full evolutionary models to derive observational constraints on the mass loss rate of the upper Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars. The observations used to constrain the models are: i) the relative number of luminous Lithium rich AGBs in the Magellanic Clouds, with respect to the total number of AGBs populating the luminosity range −6 ≥ Mbol≥ −7; ii) the s–proce...
