Least-effort trajectories lead to emergent crowd behaviors.

چکیده
Pedestrian crowds often have been modeled as many-particle systems, usually using computer models known as multiagent simulations. The key challenge in modeling crowds is to develop rules that guide how the particles or agents interact with each other in a way that faithfully reproduces paths and behaviors commonly seen in real human crowds. Here, we propose a simple and intuitive formulation of these rules based on biomechanical measurements and the principle of least effort. We present a constrained optimization method to compute collision-free paths of minimum caloric energy for each agent, from which collective crowd behaviors can be reproduced. We show that our method reproduces common crowd phenomena, such as arching and self-organization into lanes. We also validate the flow rates and paths produced by our method and compare them to those of real-world crowd trajectories.

Dynamic group behaviors for interactive crowd simulation
We present a new algorithm to simulate dynamic group behaviors for interactive multi-agent crowd simulation. Our approach is general and makes no assumption about the environment, shape, or size of the groups. We use the least effort principle to perform coherent group navigation and present efficient inter-group and intragroup maintenance techniques. We extend the reciprocal collision avoidanc...
متن کاملSimulating gaze attention behaviors for crowds
Crowd animation is a topic of high interest which offers many challenges. One of the most important is the trade-off between rich, realistic behaviors and computational costs. To this end, much effort has been put into creating variety in character representation and animation. Nevertheless, one aspect still lacking realism in virtual crowd characters resides in their attention behaviors. In th...
متن کاملLearning Behavior Patterns from Video: A Data-driven Framework for Agent-based Crowd Modeling
This paper proposes a generic data-driven crowd modeling framework to generate crowd behaviors that can match the video data. The proposed framework uses a dual-layer mechanism to model the crowd behaviors. The bottom layer models the microscopic collision avoidance behaviors, while the top layer models the macroscopic crowd behaviors such as the goal selection patterns and the path navigation ...
متن کاملHow cognitive heuristics can explain social interactions in spatial movement.
The movement of pedestrian crowds is a paradigmatic example of collective motion. The precise nature of individual-level behaviours underlying crowd movements has been subject to a lively debate. Here, we propose that pedestrians follow simple heuristics rooted in cognitive psychology, such as 'stop if another step would lead to a collision' or 'follow the person in front'. In other words, our ...
متن کاملInteractive and adaptive data-driven crowd simulation: User study
We present an adaptive data-driven algorithm for interactive crowd simulation. Our approach combines realistic trajectory behaviors extracted from videos with synthetic multi-agent algorithms to generate plausible simulations. We use statistical techniques to compute the movement patterns and motion dynamics from noisy 2D trajectories extracted from crowd videos. These learned pedestrian dynami...
