چکیده

Single headed 3D Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) geometries generally rely upon the use of 3 Doppler difference channels, inclined at differing angles with respect to the mechanical axes of the probe. The transformation between the non-orthogonal measurement co-ordinate system and the Cartesian system can result in large errors in the calculated velocities. A theoretical analysis of the geometrically induced uncertainties in measurements produced by four single headed 3D LDV configurations is presented. These considerations have lead to the development of a single headed fibre optic 3D LDV probe based around the use of two Doppler difference channels to directly measure the transverse velocity channels, and a reference beam channel to measure the on axis velocity component. The f/4 probe head has a working distance of 200 mm, designed to operate within the constraints of the limited optical access available in turbomachinery applications.

Optical Fibre Interferometric System for Doppler Effect Measurement

The optical fibre laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) is a technique used for the velocity measurement of fluid flows. The two-dimensional directional LDV using a special technique based on generation of heterodyne signals of differential carrier frequencies has been described in literature [1,2]. The capability of simultaneous measurement of three orthogonal velocity components has also been prese...

Design Considerations for a Dfb Fibre Laser Based High Sensitivity Broadband Hydrophone

Over the last three decades extensive research has been carried out towards the design and development of fibre optic hydrophones. The inherent advantages of fibre optic sensing technology, like high sensitivity, immunity to electromagnetic interference, intrinsic safety to water leakage, remote measurement capability etc. makes it an ideal choice for underwater acoustic sensing[1, 2]. The init...

Monostatic coaxial 1.5 μm laser Doppler velocimeter using a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer.

We present a laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) in monostatic coaxial arrangement consisting of off-the-shelf telecom-grade components: a single frequency laser (wavelength λ = 1.5 μm) and a high-finesse scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer (sFPI). In contrast to previous 1.5 μm LDV systems based on heterodyne detection, our sFPI-LDV has the advantages of having large remote sensing range not limit...

Directional spatial-resolved laser Doppler velocimeter using a two-colour fibre laser

A concept for the realisation of directional laser Doppler velocimeters (LDV), without having to use opto-electronic modulators like Bragg cells is presented. The concept is based on the use of a diode-pumped fibre laser, emitting at two different wavelengths. The two laser colours are used to generate two interference fringe systems in the measuring volume of the LDV system. The fringe systems...
