چکیده

For a n u m b e r of year~ investigators generally agreed that electron optical studies had established a basic pattern for the axial fiber bundle of sperm tails. This consisted essentially of two single ilia-ments centered within a ring made up of nine doublet filaments. It was further established that this structure possessed bilateral symmetry, All of the electron micrographs are from spermatozoa of the flatworm Haernatolvechus medioplexus fixed in 1 per cent veronal-buffered osmium tetroxide. The micrographs were taken at an instrumental magnification of 9,500 and were further enlarged photographically. FIOURE 1 Cross-section through a sperm tail to show the general configuration of the axial fiber bundles. The single central unit with its core (1), cortex (2), and sheath (3) ; the peripheral doublet filaments and the radial spokes (5') can be observed. The arrows (RF) indicate possible connections between the rim elements. >(166,000.

The control of male fertility by spermatozoan ion channels.

Ion channels control the sperm ability to fertilize the egg by regulating sperm maturation in the female reproductive tract and by triggering key sperm physiological responses required for successful fertilization such as hyperactivated motility, chemotaxis, and the acrosome reaction. CatSper, a pH-regulated, calcium-selective ion channel, and KSper (Slo3) are core regulators of sperm tail calc...

Chemical Dissection of Mammalian Spermatozoa

Mammalian spermatozoa have been dissected by a variety of chemical techniques to yield free heads, tails with attached midpieces, and tails without mitochondria. By brief exposure to trypsin, mouse and rat spermatozoa were cleaved at the junction of the head and the tail, while human, guinea pig and rabbit spermatozoa were cleaved by trypsin only after prior incubation with a sulphhydryl reduci...

Developing Very Fine Nanopearlitic Structure in a High Carbon Steel Wire before Drawing

The effects of steel wire patenting process parameters on very fine interlamellar spacing in the pearlitic steel wire were investigated and the optimized condition of the process was achieved. In this work, the initial nanopearlitic structure was obtained in a 0.72 wt% carbon steel wire before the wire drawing process. The results were the minimum interlamellar spacing of 35 nm and maximum ulti...

Effects of Upward Seepage on Depth of Scour Hole Downstream of Free Falling Jets Under Constant Tail Water Depth

rade control structures are used to control bed erosion in steep small rivers mostly in the mountains. Scour downstream of this structure can lead to failure. Over the past years, the effect of different variables on this phenomena have been studied, however the effect of upward seepage which is common due to head difference of the banks water table or water surface level between the upstream a...

A Quantitative Assessment of Spermatozoan Morphology in Nutricola confusa and Nutricola tantilla (Bivalvia: Veneridae)

The brooding bivalves, Nutricola tantilla and N. confusa overlap in their geographic distributions, habitats, and modes and timing of reproduction. Based on previous studies we infer that males of both species release spermatozoa into the water column; while females retain developing embryos in a brood chamber. Females release fully formed juveniles and there is no pelagic larval stage. We hypo...
