چکیده

We study the Roper excitation in the (α, α ′) reaction. We consider all processes which may be relevant in the Roper excitation region, namely, Roper excitation in the target, Roper excitation in the projectile, and double ∆ excitation processes. The theoretical investigation shows that the Roper excitation in the proton target mediated by an isoscalar exchange is the dominant mechanism in the process. We determine an effective isoscalar interaction by means of which the experimental cross section is well reproduced. This should be useful to make predictions in related reactions and is a first step to construct eventually a microscopic N N → N N * transition potential, for which the present reaction does not offer enough information.

Data for the scattering of 6 He, 8 He, 9 Li, and 11 Li from hydrogen are analyzed within a fully microscopic folding model of proton-nucleus scattering. Current data suggest that of these only 11 Li has a noticeable halo. The available data for the 6 Li(γ, π +) 6 He gs reaction support the conclusion that 6 He does not.

Low energy π emission in hypernuclear weak decays is related to ∆I = 3/2 part of nonmesonic weak decays according to the soft pion theorem. We show that neither meson exchange pictures nor virtual Σ excitation can solve the π emission puzzle. On the other hand, the direct quark mechanism gives the ratio R(π/π : S-wave, soft pion) ≈ 1/4 for 4ΛHe and 5ΛHe. ∗email: [email protected]
