Towards a Rule Driven Approach for Updating Dynamic Road Segments

چکیده
In recent years, the development of the GIS-T (Geographic Information System for Transportation) applications has gained much attention, providing the transportation planners and managers with in-depth knowledge to achieve better decisions. Needless to say, developing a successful GIS for transportation applications is highly dependent on the design of a well-structured data model. Dynamic segmentation (DS) data model is a popular one being used more and more for different GIS-T analyses, serving as a data model that splits linear features into new set of segments wherever its attributes change. In most cases, the sets of segments presenting a particular attribute change frequently. Transportation managers place great importance on having regular update and revision of segmented data to ensure correct and precise decisions are made. However, updating the segmented data manually is a difficult task and a time-consuming process to do, demanding an automatic approach. To alleviate this, the present study describes a rulebased method using topological concept to simply update road segments and replace the manual tasks that users are to carry out. The proposed approach was employed and implemented on real road network data of the City of Tehran provided by the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) of Iran. The practical results demonstrated that the time, cost, human-type errors, and complexity involved in update tasks are all reduced.

متن کاملRoad Extraction for the Update of Road Databases in Suburban Areas
This paper deals with road extraction in suburban areas from high resolution aerial images. The extraction results are intended to be used for updating a road database. The road extraction algorithm follows a region-based approach in which the image is first segmented using the normalized cuts algorithm with colour and edge criteria. Then, the initial segments are grouped to larger segments in ...
متن کاملA NEW APPROACH BASED ON FINITE ELEMENT MODEL UPDATING FOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IDENTIFICATION
In this study, the finite element model updating was simulated by reducing the stiffness of the members. Due to lack of access to the experimental results, the data obtained from an analytical model were used in the proposed structural damage scenarios. The updating parameters for the studied structures were defined as a reduction coefficient applied to the stiffness of the members. Parameter v...
متن کاملUpdating Road Networks by Local Renewal from GPS Trajectories
The long production cycle and huge cost of collecting road network data often leave the data lagging behind the latest real conditions. However, this situation is rapidly changing as the positioning techniques ubiquitously used in mobile devices are gradually being implemented in road network research and applications. Currently, the predominant approaches infer road networks from mobile locati...

Automatic road centerline extraction from high-resolution satellite imagery has gained considerable interest recently due to the increasing availability of commercial high-resolution satellite images. In this paper, a hierarchical grouping strategy is proposed to automatically extract main road centerlines from high-resolution satellite imagery. Here hierarchical grouping means that, instead of...
