چکیده

SAFT is perhaps the most versatile, fundamentally, based engineering equation of state in use today. However, in common with all analytic equations of state, SAFT exhibits classical behavior in the critical region rather than the non-analytical, singular behavior seen in real fluids. Recently, so-called crossover equations of state have been developed which solve this shortcoming by incorporating the scaling laws valid asymptotically close to the critical point while reducing to the original classical equation of state far from the critical point. We have combined the SAFT-VR equation of state with an analytical crossover technique to obtain the SAFT-VRX equation of state. The SAFT-VRX approach combines the accurate low temperature behavior of SAFT-VR with a precise representation of the critical region. Preliminary results are presented for hydrocarbon systems which illustrate the accuracy of the SAFT-VRX approach over the entire fluid phase region. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Application of Crossover Theory to the SAFT-VR Equation of State: SAFT-VRX for Pure Fluids

The molecular-based SAFT equation of state has proven to be very versatile in the prediction of fluid phase equilibria. However, in common with all analytic equations of state, SAFT exhibits classical behavior in the critical region rather than the nonanalytical, singular behavior seen in real fluids. As a result, accurate agreement over the whole phase diagram cannot be obtained and must be lo...

Predicting mixture phase equilibria and critical behavior using the SAFT-VRX approach.

The SAFT-VRX equation of state combines the SAFT-VR equation with a crossover function that smoothly transforms the classical equation into a nonanalytical form close to the critical point. By a combinination of the accuracy of the SAFT-VR approach away from the critical region with the asymptotic scaling behavior seen at the critical point of real fluids, the SAFT-VRX equation can accurately d...

Application of SAFT–VRX to binary phase behaviour: alkanes

In previous work, we developed the crossover SAFT–VR equation of state (SAFT–VRX) for pure fluids by following the crossover approach proposed by Kiselev. The SAFT–VRX equation was shown to be very accurate in the prediction of PVT and phase behaviour for both nonassociating and associating fluids. In particular, simple expressions for the potential model parameters for the n-alkane homologous ...

A Hard Convex Core Yukawa Equation of State for Nonassociated Chain Molecules

The compressibility factor of nonassociated chain molecules composed of hard convex core Yukawa segments was derived with SAFT-VR and an extension of the Barker-Henderson perturbation theory for convex bodies. The temperature-dependent chain and dispersion compressibility factors were derived using the Yukawa potential. The effects of temperature, packing fraction, and segment number on the com...

Generalized SAFT-DFT/DMT Model for the Thermodynamic, Interfacial, and Transport Properties of Associating Fluids: Application for n-Alkanols

We have developed a “global” crossover (GC) statistical associating fluid theory (SAFT) equation of state (EOS) for associating fluids that incorporates nonanalytic scaling laws in the critical region and in the limit of low densities, F f 0, is transformed into the ideal-gas equation EOS. Unlike the crossover SAFT EOS developed earlier, the new GC SAFT EOS contains a so-called kernel term and ...
