Microjet Impingement Boiling on a Structured-porous Surface
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using single/multiple layers of highly conductive metallic wire mesh screen bonded to a plain heat transfer base surface, the two-phase heat transfer performance of a microjet impinging onto a porous coated copper surface was studied. Experiments were conducted at three different flow rates of water under atmospheric pressure. For comparison, experiments of jet impinging on a plain copper surface were also conducted. The results show that a base surface heat flux of 289W/cm is reached at a superheat of 7.9K and a jet Reynolds number of 5000 with a four-layer 200-mesh test article. Compared to jet impinging on a plain copper surface under similar working conditions, a 248% performance enhancement is obtained with the porous surface.

Observations of droplet impingement on a ceramic porous surface
The dynamic aspects of droplet impingement on a porous ceramic surface were studied experimentally. Single-shot flash photography was used to photographically record the deformation and spreading on the surface. The observations were made with ambient pressure (0.10 MPa), ambient temperature (cu. 22”C), initial droplet diameter (1.5 mm), and the impact Weber number (43) fixed. The primary param...

The thermal management of high heat fluxes is a critical roadblock in the way of higher-performance microelectronics. The ongoing reduction in microtransistor size translates into heat fluxes comparable to those encountered in nuclear reactions and rocket nozzles, but under much severer temperature constraints. Although the average heat flux may remain in the vicinity of 100 to 300 W/cm, the pe...

jet impingement boiling is investigated with regard to heat transfer and pressure drop performance using a novel laser sintered 3D printed jet impingement manifold design. Water was the working fluid at atmospheric pressure with inlet subcooling of 7 o C. The convective boiling performance of the impinging jet system was investigated for a flat copper target surface for 2700≤Re≤5400. The result...

This research is an effort to demonstrate the applicability of miniaturized synthetic jet (microjet) technology to the area of thermal management of microelectronic devices. Synthetic jets are jets which are formed from entrainment and expulsion of the fluid in which they are embedded. Design issues of microjet cooling devices are discussed along with characterization of excitation elements and...
